DC6 fantasy Christmas list

So I never did a Christmas list growing up. We got what we were given! But, DC6 has got the idea from somewhere and has put on it things he's seen or heard of that I can't actually get. He is saying Santa's elves can make absolutely anything so he sees no reason he won't get them. Last year he was proudly announcing to his class that Santa wasn't real so I'm guessing the promise of impossible toys has changed his mind?! Confused

Anyway what should I do about these impossible items? Do we just post the list off to Santa and say "wait and see" ? I feel like he won't drop it and Christmas day will be fairly ruined with him being disappointed/sad and not appreciating anything he does get. Help!!

I just did lots of ‘we can’t all get everything we want, it’s not fair on other children/Father Christmas has a limit on what he can make’ type of talks. I also told my kids he takes the money out of my bank by direct debit, so I need to be able to afford it!

Does he know rhat Santa doesnt make technology and wont bring pets as its too cold and scary for them on the sleigh? The elves have lots of children to make stuff for, and iften Santa or the elves go "off list" if you're VERY lucky.
Santa wont bring anything dangerous - eg flying carpets, and the elves cant make magical things - they have to learn loads of sleigh & Christmas magic so specialised in that, not in magic-potion making.

You can ask, but theres a good chance he'll not bring it.
On the day: WOW. You're amazingly lucky, a trainee elf has tried making you (insert ridiculous item here that you've crafted from pipe cleaners and stick-backed plastic at 3am), Santa must know how youd appreciate the effort his learner elfs went to!

mnahmnah · 15/11/2023 20:04

I always say that Santa is very busy and has so many children and only so much space on his sleigh. So the letter is just suggestions for Santa and he will choose what he can bring.

Worriedkittycat · 15/11/2023 20:07

What sort of stuff has he asked for?

I'm surprised my DS hasn't asked for a tardis yet. Not a toy one. A real one that he can fly into space.

cheddercherry · 15/11/2023 20:08

For my DS5 Santa only gets a few small things that he might really like but aren’t outrageous like a small Lego set etc (didn’t want him going into class saying how Santa brought him a bike etc while some kids might be sat there like why did Santa get me a ball/ or nothing!). But presents mostly come from mummy and daddy and so it can’t be thousands/ not real.

I’ve also tried to reinforce gently this year that it’s a wish list, not an order form so not everything he asks for will be on it!

This made me laugh - I’m also waiting for this!

Quickredfox · 15/11/2023 20:22

My six year olds want a real baby and a live penguin. I have told them in the past that Father Christmas doesn’t bring those things but they think he’ll find a way.

Nonplusultra · 15/11/2023 20:24

It sounds like he’s setting up a trap to prove that Santa doesn’t exist. Clever wee man!

I think I’d just let him watch some toy adverts on tv - they’re irritatingly compelling and he’s bound to drop his principles for some shiny, over exaggerated toy set.

You are a genius! Actually stealing this!

Aw I love this post ❤️

I don't get the whole thing of 'Santa bringing all the presents under the tree' when I was a kid, he filled up a Stocking that i left out with little novelties and treats, and that was that?! Everything else was from family and friends.
We do the same now with 6yo DD (although i haven't helped the situation by letting her "decorate a giant stocking' at center parcs one time, which now needs filling each year! 🤦‍♀️ I tell her that Santa can only afford to get each child afew smaller gifts to fit in her stocking, and but it annoys me when I get 'but Santa brought 'X' a barbie house, ipad etc etc'

My DD's Christmas list is written to Santa, and we post it to him, but she knows she won't get everything on it, (and that we might take ideas from it for her bigger presents that aren't 'stocking fillers')

3amShopper · 16/11/2023 06:49

In our house FC shops at Smyth's, so if Smyth's haven't got it, you can't have it 🎅🏻🐻‍❄️

DS chooses five or so things from the catalogue to go on the request letter, Santa chooses one or two to deliver and fills the stocking. Mummy may get the others. But we send Santa the cash, so it's got to be reasonable.

Beamur · 16/11/2023 06:53

This is why Santa only ever brought stockings in our house..which had things like Christmas socks in it!

This is not the magic of Christmas!

MidnightOnceMore · 16/11/2023 07:00

@MrsElsa in what way are the presents impossible?

If very expensive I think you'll have to say something.

But at a similar age one of ours asked for some Confused things, and we found a way to approximate them. At only 6 they don't have fixed answers to questions either.

So it depends if he's asked for something like 'a raincloud' or 'this very expensive gift'.

Fixesplease · 16/11/2023 07:08

Mine is also 6, last year he wrote that he'd like a Zebra ( a real life one to live in the garden!)

However, in our house, Santa only brings the toys. He fills the stocking with things he may like but the rest it's mum and dad who send the money to Santa so the elves can make them and drop off on Xmas Eve.

PictureFrameWindow · 16/11/2023 07:16

My 5 yo has asked for 4 diamonds on his Christmas list!

This is cute.

Will you buy some nice big jewels?

I miss these kind of Christmas lists!!

reluctantbrit · 16/11/2023 07:43

It's a wish list and not everything can be fulfilled. Also there are restrictions in general, no pets, people, electronics, money, dangerous items and jewellery.

I would just say that Santa in the past had a good guess but he now prefers lists but he is restricted to mainly toys and only so many will fit on the sleigh.

Bbq1 · 16/11/2023 08:19

I don't get pp's who tell dc they send Santa the money for gifts. Doesn't seem very magical.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/11/2023 08:36

I get the point of saying you pay Santa but it seems pointless, may as well just not introduce this over complicated delivery system and just go to Smyths and buy stuff they want.
Why would parents send Santa gifts to then re deliver, or order from Santa when Argos is down the road?

Baldieheid · 16/11/2023 08:46

Bbq1 · 16/11/2023 08:19

I don't get pp's who tell dc they send Santa the money for gifts. Doesn't seem very magical.

My friend did this as a single parent. It taught her boys to temper their expectations to her budget. It was still magical to them, but they understood the financial limitations and really appreciated everything they received.

Do you think it's more magical to have a parent struggling with debt for the rest of the year? I don't.

PictureFrameWindow · 16/11/2023 09:09

@MidnightOnceMore I think I'll try to get something like Swarovski crystals. I'm not sure why he needs precisely 4, but it's very cute!

Singleandproud · 16/11/2023 09:21

@PictureFrameWindow how old is he? Don't get valuable ones if he is going to want to play with them the arcades round here have large ones in 2p machines, I bet you can buy them from Amazon. I would fill a large plastic box with playsand and bury them and give him a sieve and a little spade to dig them out if he is quite little still and wrap the whole thing up.

In our house Santa brought the stocking and one present, that present was something I would make a huge fuss about not buying so when she opened it she really though Santa had got it for her, it helps that her list for a couple of years was things like Gooey Looey and the Dog poo game, although one year it was duct tape - that was over a decade ago and we've still got rolls of it laying about.

@MrsElsa what was on his list, I bet we can think of a creative way of him getting it or something similar.

Singleandproud · 16/11/2023 09:24
