A close family member is having their first baby in the new year so I thought a nice Christmas present could be something to help them survive those early months. Trouble is, all I can think of that would be for them and not baby is vouchers for takeaways lol 😂

I must’ve blanked out the early days!

What would/did you find useful or beneficial in the early months for yourself not baby?

Either a nice insulated water bottle or if a hot drinker and insulated mug type thing.

I actually think your first instinct was a good one - food is probably one of the best gifts for new parents! I have done vouchers from cook when I have had new parents to buy for, alongside when I've had friends experiencing bereavement etc as it's such a help. I've also just cooked lots of tasty batch meals and they've frozen them. For one friend as a gift I mocked up a menu and she got to choose all the things she wanted and then I delivered them when baby was born.

I personally wouldn't see them as new parents but your friends with their own interests.

Yes, practical gifts are nice but I don't leave my own hobbies and likes outside the delivery suite.

If you prefer going for practical gifts: cook vouchers, insulated mugs you can open with one hand, small night light for feeding, very good handcream, cross body bag for phone/keys.

DD was quite sensitive to all kind of smells so all my lovely body butters, shower gels etc were put aside for several months.
