Dd has asked for Magic Mixies

She does love a chance to mix stuff up.
BUT
they look to me like an (extremely) expensive waste of plastic that you can only use once?
should we just get her one or would it be better to look for another potion kit? I’ve been searching on here I remember some being recommended with tiny bottles and scrolls and things.

any thoughts?

I don’t think you mix anything up with the magic mixie. Just wave around the electric wand.

I got one for my niece and it was a bit hard following the instructions (maybe you need to download the app). I mistakenly thought that it would then reveal more little toys after the initial mixie, it turns out you can just hide your own toys for it to reveal. So there was a big disappointment when we couldn’t make it reveal more.

I tried quickly hiding a few things in it after she left the room but she cottoned on to what I did 😂 (age 6)

Didn't go down the best and bit disappointing but maybe that was my fault. They have great reviews and it was meant to be toy of the year last year.

That’s really helpful thanks I might spend a bit of time watching some videos. I think that isn’t quite what I thought it was.

It's just like another thing like lol surprise really isn't it.
My child has a few magic mixies.
It's just a toy for them to play imaginary play with one they've opened them.
Children do love these things though

The potion lab is one of the things I have looked at.
I might need to explore a bit what she thinks it is, I doubt she thinks it’s just another blind box.
I really thought you mixed stuff up.
all helpful thank you.
still the question, do we get it because it’s the thing she asked for, or do we get something we think is better! Arg!

I guess this isn’t something that could be bought second hand then, it has to be new?

I have bought my daughter one from the Potion Lab https://thepotionlab.co.uk/products/potion-kit

I've also bought this for DD. It comes with a full list of ingredients that can be replaced so it can be used again and again.

Are the potion lab sets plastic? Do they actually bubble up etc? Does anyone have any pics of how big they actually are?

Keiki · 19/11/2023 07:59

I bought one secondhand with a new potion kit for my DD last year. The mixing and steam stuff is quite fun, she really enjoyed that bit but hasn't really played with the mixi. So, if you can find something that does bubbly sounds and steam I'd recommend that instead, unless she's particularly into small world play with cuddly toys.

What sort of age are these suitable for please? Looking for present ideas for my niece (nearly 8)

BertHandsomeAteMyBudgie · 19/11/2023 08:53

the cauldron is on Black Friday sale so I am thinking if getting it, but still debating a bit.
there are some helpful unboxing vids on YouTube. We watched one by Cherry Wallis which really gave a good feel for it.
still thinking about second hand as well, as I don’t think she’s that invested in the stuffy.

I think 8 is probably about the right age tbh.

Wow, thanks for this recommendation: this looks fab for my Harry Potter-obsessed DD2. And the company does kits for parties, too! I’m very pleased to have clicked on this thread.

@zaffa it's not enormous - the ingredients fit in a box not much bigger than a shoebox. It looks really nice though.
