If you could eliminate one thing about Christmas what would it be?

I think if I could change one thing I’d eliminate the presents - just have a lovely season of coming together for meals and companionship, without the stress and expense of buying gifts for a certain day.

I quite like giving gifts - I’d just rather do it as and when, instead of trying to find something thoughtful by a certain date within a strict price range.

What one aspect of Christmas would you change?

The f**king presents!!!

Sugarfree23 · 12/12/2023 17:49

Can I ban birthdays? I find the whole trying to come up.with double ideas impossible

merryhouse · 12/12/2023 17:51

The moaning. The bloody moaning.

Just do it, or not. If you don't want to do the elf, don't do the elf. If you don't want to visit sixty million relatives, don't visit. If you don't want to eat sprouts, don't fucking eat sprouts.

Just stop moaning.

I’d get rid of people not understanding Advent.

I’d also get rid of elf on the shelf and Christmas Eve boxes (which we don’t do), and get people to understand the twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Day, not December 1st.

I’d also like to magic up a happy Christmas for every child. Each year my heart breaks, knowing there are children out there for whom it is not a happy day.

and having read the post that landed just after mine -

so many people moan about how the days after Christmas are this really weird nothing in-between time.

THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'VE SPENT THE WHOLE OF ADVENT DOING THE STUFF YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING NOW

I really enjoy doing presents for people... Christmas is a good excuse. I even enjoyed it when I was skint.

I've never enjoyed work parties. I hate enforced jollity. But if you don't go you feel like a bloody Grinch.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 12/12/2023 18:15

Can I have another? Can we ban Cliff Richard. His singing is GBH of the ear holes. 😖

SheilaFentiman · 12/12/2023 19:57

Postage.

I want a magic wand to address and stamp all cards and presents with the right £

Hm, carol services normally happen before Christmas. Same with end of term parties from school or Scout group or other clubs children attend.

We moved ice skating to the 30th this year as it is a Saturday. But I work most years between Christmas and New Year so unless there is a weekend, we do have to do things before Christmas. Not everyone can take time off.

I don't go to mine, haven't gone for years. I'm not a fan of Christmas and hate enforced jollity, same as you. So whoever is organising gets a polite email saying thanks for invite, not for me, but enjoy! All done and dusted. I'm sure no one really gives a shit whether I'm there or not. I do like my colleagues but I'm done with going to stuff out of guilt. It gets much easier with practice!

You don't need a magic wand - you just need Santa that's his job get stuff to where it needs to be.🤣
