Hi, I’d love to buy my nieces/nephews a couple of books each. Fiction ideally. Any suggestions for

  • 7 yo girl who likes science and history. She loves captain underpants and dogman but is been to move on to “proper” books
  • 9 yo girl who likes animals and fashion. She likes isadora moon but is ready for something a little older
  • 11 yo boy who likes history, warhammer, adventures

any suggestions very gratefully received. Thanks

The cherub series for your son. Also the divergent aeries. Phillip Pullman too maybe?

Other good books
the Malamder
the house with the chicken legs
boy underwater
cosmic- can’t remember the author but he’s written lots of books. All
good.
ten boy at the back of the class- my personal fave
wonder
the narnia series.
Harry Potter?

david baddiel- the parent controller. Also written other ones. All good.

murder most horrid series for your girls or the geek grid series. Also there is a brilliant Irish author who wrote historical feminist children’s fiction- The Making of Mollie, Anna Carey. There are other titles.

For the 11 yo my ds (who likes the same things) has read pretty much all the Rick Riordan books going by our Audible library.

you can get some age appropriate warhammer books as well. He also loves the codexes and will read those again and again.

WeirdPookah · 09/11/2023 19:15

Has the 11 year old read the Warhammer kids novels? Attack of the Necron is the first in one series and City of Lifestone the first in the other.

The 9 year old might like Malory Towers, my daughter loves them.

Toto the Ninja Cat would be great for the 7 year old.

7 year old/ 9 year old (depending on reading ability): the Rainbow Grey series, the Peanut Jones series.

I second Toto the ninja cat for your youngest. My 9 year old loves the Dragon Mountain series and The Dragon With The Chocolate Heart.

Alwaysroomforcake · 09/11/2023 22:52

9 year old - Warrior Cats series. Be warned, there are a lot of books!! 😂

MuddledMadge · 10/11/2023 22:21

Think Like An Elf - a Clarice Bean book by Lauren Child for the 9 Yr old. It does cast a bit of doubt on the existence of Father Christmas though.

EcoCustard · 11/11/2023 07:31

Non fiction- Any of the DK knowledge encyclopaedias or history books are great as are the animal ones.

The Last Bear Cub.
Pax.
Animals of Farthing Wood and Michael Morpurgo animal ones are great.

7 year old - Tom Fletcher books - Christmasaurus, Danger Gang etc

9 year old - Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland, Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter, Adventure Island by Helen Moss - these are series of books so great to add to.

11 year old - Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan (anything by Rick Riordan is great!) or Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
