Just seen the M&S one and came to see if there was a thread!
I think it came across as very 'let them eat cake', considering the CoL crisis (and climate one.) All dressed up to the sparkly nines in their big fancy houses, surrounded by so much excess that they can afford to blowtorch piles of Christmas cards, chuck board games in the fish tank and litter all the neighbours gardens with non-compostable shiny paper.
I know it's supposed to be humorous and ironic and relatable, but last year I didn't send cards because it was a way of cutting cost, and I haven't bought crackers for the same reason for many years now. (I wonder if all those things are the products they're advertising? If so, it seems more likely to make people think twice about buying them.) Instead of being relatable, it feels very out of touch with the Christmas most people will be having this year - though maybe those people are not the M&S target market so they don't care.
