I get what you're saying but to me it reads differently. They're still pushing the massively glamorous, sparkly, perfect Christmas ideal, with beautiful people in their beautiful party outfits and gorgeous makeup, hosting a lavish Christmas in their huge, amazing houses stuffed with every kind of excess. And then giving a permission to trash some of that expensive stuff to relieve the pressure, when for the vast majority of us the pressure comes from not being able to afford it in the first place, and not having a hope of ever achieving the kind of Christmas advertising executives seem to think we all take so much for granted that we roll our eyes at it.
No, M&S, you haven't got our back. In the midst of a climate and cost of living crisis, you and your perfect Christmas propaganda are the problem.
