I am laughing at myself but Christmas cocktails!

I just got a cocktail making set for my birthday which is ace. I am not a big drinker at all but love a cocktail so thought this year I would pick one or two recipes to see me through.

I have to please literally myself. I can't drink champagne/Prosecco so no 'spritz' types. Otherwise I'm open to most options.

I can make wanky ice cubes and am prepared for minor outlay on liqueurs I will literally only use for this purpose but if they stock them in Lidl/aldi then all the better.

Wacky ice cubes rather than wanky ice cubes, I hope, OP?

SecondUsername4me · 30/10/2023 19:30

My absoloute favourite is a Mai Tai. It's fairly "boozy" so fewer needed for the buzz.

What's in the kit?

NiceViper · 30/10/2023 19:30

You need snowballs at Christmas (dead simple, Advocaat and full-bore lemonade (not 7up)) And if you don't take to the drink, you can tip the Advocaat over vanilla ice-cream to pimp your pudding

PetuniaTheWhale · 30/10/2023 19:31

An amaretto sour is my go-to simple Christmas cocktail. Made right it takes like marzipan, without being cloyingly sweet.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 30/10/2023 19:35

White Russian 😍

You can add a splash of gingerbread syrup too to make a gingerbread White Russian 🤤🤤

And yeah you can't beat a Snowball!

AdaColeman · 30/10/2023 19:39

You can't beat a classic Negroni for taste plus oumph!

As a cocktail beginner you might like a Kir if you drink white wine, or another idea is an espresso martini.

Enjoy! 🍸 🍸 🍸 🍸

I just buy the bottles of snowballs . I just can't use a whole bottle of Advocaat .

MorrisZapp · 30/10/2023 19:59

Ooh I love christmas cocktails! Anybody know any citrussy ones?

flibbertigiblets · 30/10/2023 19:59

@cuthbertthecat

The ‘Nog is our go to and very very delicious/decadent:

THE PARTICULARS
(makes two drinks)

1 shot bourbon
1 shot dark rum
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg (plus a pinch to garnish)

i. Add the bourbon, rum, ice cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the shaker.
ii. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
iii. Strain the mixture into chilled coupes and garnish with remaining nutmeg

Bison grass vodka with cloudy apple juice. Tastes like apple pie 🥧

CheersToMe · 30/10/2023 20:02

Pain Killers.

Although maybe a bit summery for Christmas but you can use the rum for more seasonal offerings too, like a dark n stormy.

oranga · 30/10/2023 20:06

Last new year we are drinking cranberry margaritas - they were delicious! www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cranberry-margarita

Lidlfix · 30/10/2023 20:41

Try making your own gin liquor as a (very strong) base. Over the years my highlights have included Candy Kane Kick, candy canes dissolved slowly in gin, Cointreau, and cranberry juice. Puddin on the Glitz Christmas Pudding vodka (lots of recipes online) clementine juice (topped up with fizz if desired. Tipsy Tree Fairy Sherbert Lemon (known as Tinkerbell because of the colour) dissolved in gin, vermouth- like a negroni but not as dry...

FrenchandSaunders · 30/10/2023 20:49

Vanilla vodka
baileys
coffee ice cubes
😋not sure what it’s called.

Damnloginpopup · 30/10/2023 21:05

Espresso martini
Moscow mule
B52

Now go and lie down. Fuck the turkey 😁

noooooooo · 30/10/2023 21:05

Keep it simple. Baileys, there’s always a rip-off Baileys in Aldi, and coke. Known locally as The Boak. Is it a cocktail,
nah, but unless you’re James Bond who gives a fuck. Go for mint Baileys if you really want to find out who has iron guts. Stripey straws necessary for sucking up the curds.

Santa’s hat - a French martini but replace one glug of pineapple juice with pomegranate syrup 🎅🏻Sometimes drop pomegranate beads on top to fend off scurvy.

You can always use it to make eggnog cream a la Nigella's holiday hotcake recipe https://www.nigella.com/recipes/holiday-hot-cake-with-eggnog-cream

Ooh, I feel inspired!

I've got a big crowd coming over the weekend before Christmas. Any suggestions on long cocktails I can serve that'll please most?

And non-alcoholic for the drivers and tweens?

PurpleSaturday · 30/10/2023 21:43

bramble if you are not a big drinker

TotalOverhaul · 30/10/2023 21:50

I love an Old Fashioned at Christmas. That big twist of orange peel gives it a lovely seasonal flavour. You could make it with muscavado sugar and a single giant ice cube.

The bottles of premix use lemonade with artificial sweeteners (aspartame, I think) and it just doesn't taste right

My favourite long cocktails

Non-alcoholic: Shirley Temple
Ginger beer (or ginger beer/lemonade)
Grenadine
Cherry to garnish

Extremely alcoholic: Long Island Iced Tea
Vodka (or vanilla vodka)
Gin
Tequila
Rum
Cointreau/triple sec
Lime juice + lime wedges to garnish
Cola
Ice
