Electronic/gaming device for almost 5 year old?

Hi,

My son will be a couple of months off age 5 at Christmas. I’m so very sick of toys, especially as we’ll have a new baby girl at Christmas and will likely be a bit overwhelmed.

My mum is insisting on buying him loads of massive crap that won’t fit in our house! I’d much rather prefer he had some sort of electronic device from her as he is starting to show an interest in games/electronics etc… He already has an Ipad

I’m clueless though. No idea what to suggest she buys. Her budget is around £250. I could also add money to it, purchase games for it etc..

Any Nintendo consoles suitable for that age range? Any help appreciated! She’s badgering me and wants to purchase asap.

I'd tell her to bank most of that money or get a trampoline for outside (assuming you have a garden) alternatively a tablet will be more diverse than a Switch and cheaper for that age.

I agree save the money rather than getting something for the sake of it.
I'd he already has an ipad I would be careful about further electronics.

Op I missed already having an ipad. Definitely high interest account rather than buying for the sake of it

Thing is i’d like him to have something to help occupy him over Christmas whilst I have a 2 week old as we’ll be spending more time home than usual and so I think something electronic will be ideal.

If you want a gadget then it would be Nintendo. I’d highly recommend the Switch as you can connect straight to the tv and play or remove from the hub and use as a handheld. The games are designed for 5+.

We purchased ours for my son who was 5 at the time. He absolutely loves it.

Op I'd stick a new game on his ipad.
And get something you can do with him rather than a Switch.

And I say that as someone who was trying to hold off on a Switch last year for nearly 6yo.
The Switch must be due an update, its been out for about 6 years.

The year my LO was born my oldest got Lego, Scalectrix and a trampoline to make our garden more interesting.
