Our lovely DIL will be 7 months pregnant at Christmas and I am at a loss what to get her. I will probably get her a few things rather than one big one so hopefully she will like some of them!
She takes good care of her appearance and likes luxury items, good food etc. Can anyone please suggest anything?
Thank you

What about a voucher for a pregnancy massage at a nice salon? Or a pedicure? You can’t do your own toes when you’re that pregnant 😄

newmama311 · 29/10/2023 11:10

Definitely a cinema voucher to go enjoy a film before baby comes, or a spa voucher of some kind, she will be getting overwhelmed with items in her house now so an experience will be best for her x

Maternity pyjamas/loungewear, it was one thing I couldn’t justify buying for myself because you use them for such a short period but god I was happy to be comfy. If she likes more luxury things you could look at a Chelsea Peers set.

Something that isn't pregnancy or baby related!

what would you usually buy her?

Nat6999 · 29/10/2023 11:57

Pyjamas, slippers, dressing gown, nice toiletries for her toilet bag, nice alcohol free wines or spirits, leisurewear, I was 7 months at Christmas when I had ds & I lived in comfortable leisurewear, I didn't buy specific maternity stuff, just normal sized but went up at least one size, this meant I could wear it again afterwards.

Diptique candle!

Mummy08m · 29/10/2023 12:26

I'm pregnant - I've requested a nice sofa blanket, some soaps that I like, and ready made "NIO" cocktails for after the birth (omg I so need a drink...!)

Another thing I got in my last pregnancy was Cook vouchers which came in useful. Similarly I wouldn't say no to a couple of my MIL's homemade lasagnes for the freezer.

Another idea could be a gift subscription to netflix/audible etc if they don't already have those.

Mummy08m · 29/10/2023 12:27

Ps I always value a hamper too! But it's got to have the right things in.

PortalooSunset · 29/10/2023 12:27

I'd avoid anything pregnancy related unless she's specifically asked for it, so something personal for her and not as the incubator of your grandchild! Jewellery maybe?

Takeaway gift cards
A nice throw blanket
Nice pjs
Fluffy socks
Her favourite snacks/anything she’s been craving
A maternity photoshoot/pregnancy massage could be good if she would like that sort of thing 🤔

Not19foreverpullyourselftogether · 29/10/2023 15:02

A silk pillowcase, Chanel nail polish, a beautiful dressing gown, jersey PJs, her favourite chocolates, simple good quality earrings or bracelet, luxury bath oil, an Amazon dot, cashmere scarf.

Mummy08m · 29/10/2023 15:56

Just a note as a pp suggested pyjamas - don't get anything wearable.

I got given a jumper when I was 4mo postpartum in my pre-pregnancy size and I cried because I couldn't pull it on. I got disproportionately angry (privately in my head) to the person (dh's aunt) who bought it for me. I then reordered it at my own expense in a size that fit, because it was a matching one to the one she got dh and it would have been obvious if I never wore it. I'm still oddly upset about it now 3y later.

My advice is no clothes except socks, slippers etc. Including dressing gowns.

Edit - unless you get maternity pyjamas obviously

Hair done for after she has the baby.
national trust membership.

VisiblyNot25 · 29/10/2023 16:04

I agree with @Mummy08m about no wearable clothes. A nice dressing gown & slippers could be good. I had loads of baths towards the end of my pregnancies so maybe nice bath stuff? Or one of those trays that go across the bath that you can balance your drink/ book etc?

Favouritefruits · 29/10/2023 16:50

How about doing her a stocking with little luxuries and treats inside and a few fun baby bits, I did this for my SIL I found a ‘Emily’ Tomas train and she was calling her DD Emily and she says is was the best gift because it was thoughtful!

Ilovelurchers · 29/10/2023 20:23

Books? She's likely to be resting more the closer she gets to giving birth. Nice chocolates. Definitely nice bath stuff - I loved having long baths when I was pregnant - I think that's quite common. Zero alcohol gin I think is nice - tho not pregnant I would love the receive a bottle of this! Vouchers for the salon she uses? My friend paid for me to have hair and nails done when I was pregnant - that was lovely.

Thanks some lovely ideas here! I have ordered a bottle of Tanqueray Sevilla and will definitely use some more of the others.
