"Little luxuries" for DP?

natura · 26/10/2023 08:54

I've got one of those 'put everyone else first' DPs - he's been working incredibly hard this year and twisting himself into pretzels to take care of some difficult family situations.

We don't go wild at Christmas, but I do want to spoil him a little as he never does it for himself.

So any ideas for little luxuries I might get that will let him feel a bit decadent for once?

He's a carpenter, plays blues guitar, and likes good food and afternoon naps😂He's not very into fashion but does take care of his appearance - think 'clean lumberjack'

Big hits in the past have been some Aesop skincare minis (beard oil, moisturiser, body wash), an Italian cookbook from a region we visited on an anniversary trip, a foam roller for his back, and a Leatherman tool...

If he wet shaves Elemis shaving foam feels lovely on the skin.

Lottapianos · 26/10/2023 08:56

I got my lovely DP a voucher for a fancy cheese shop. We're in London so it was Neal's Yard and he was chuffed with it

natura · 26/10/2023 09:06

Ooh, lovely @AlexandraJJ - will check that out...

@Lottapianos that's a great idea! We live in a bit of a remote part of the world so I'm not sure what there is around here that might be on a par with Neal's Yard, but I'm sure there's something!

I have a DH like yours! One of his favourite presents was a little hamper I made with speciality food items such as chutneys, cheeses, olives and wine. We have lovely farm shops where we live and a local vineyard so I could shop around for bits. He's asked for another one this Christmas!

EmmyLemmyHemmy · 26/10/2023 09:08

Voucher for a local deli or coffee shop, maybe one he passes on his way to work….

Silkiefloof · 26/10/2023 09:15

This is a lovely cheese shop, collected ours but they do deliver as well.

Ooh, @Icequeen01 that's a lovely idea - lots of 'little' things to enjoy is exactly the feel I'm after. I wonder if there's an Italian specialist shop around here....

A personalised guitar pick? Jo Malone has a little luxuries section with some nice bits for men. Cashmere socks or jumper?

StamppotAndGravy · 26/10/2023 09:26

Do you have a coffee maker? If not, a milk frother and fancy reusable take away cup so be can have a cappuccino or latte in his van in the morning? A subscription to nice novelty socks (or cheese! ) so he gets one pair a month through the post

jiinglebells · 26/10/2023 09:29

I did this for my mums partner - he's in a similar job and always looks after everyone (including my mum!) before himself, last year he had to look after her quite a lot because she was ill.

I got him some fancy super nourishing hand cream (works with his hands and I know in winter that must be sore when it's cold!), some lovely leather gloves again to keep the hands safe, a personalised lead for his dog (his pride and joy after my mum obviously 😂), a very nice thermos cup for hot coffees at work and some fancy bagged coffee for him, some matching fancy house socks for him and my mum (Victorian leaky period property so needed!) and then some bottles of his favourite IPAs with a fancy glass. Popped a voucher in for a local fancy bistro place too for the two of them (this one would treat you too!).

He absolutely loved it. Think I upstaged my mum so she's on it for this year 😂 but I knew last year she was too ill to sort anything so it worked well!

natura · 26/10/2023 09:34

Oh my goodness, you lot are fantastic! Thank you so much - keep the ideas flowing! @jiinglebells your mum and her partner sound very lucky to have you 😊

I am planning to buy dh a selection of beer that I have seen in the local chinese deli, all the labels look kind of exotic and pretty, I'll put them in a nice bag with a pretty wrapping. Also japanese whisky, he is a whisky fan so I try and find him a new one to try each year. Usually quite expensive so a treat.

My beardy chap recently got himself a beard brush and now swears by it. Natural bristle on a wooden handle. I think it was about 6 quid but he says it works the beard oil in and just makes his beard and skin look and feel much nicer <shrugs>

Kobe Professional Men's Beard and Fade Brush - Men’s Boar Bristle Hair Brush/Beard Brush - For Fading & Moustache Styling (Stewart) : Amazon.co.uk: Health & Personal Care

Take it back - 9 quid.

He also has big feet and is always happy with new socks that actually encompass his feet (ie - so he's not right at the top of the size range). M&S and John Lewis both do nice socks, some basic, some more novelty and new socks always feel like a treat for me.

Food treats are always appreciated. New guitar picks?

Ooh, just re-read your OP - would a pasta machine or a really good wooden chopping board be any good? Or one of those lovely olive wood cheese boards? I also say this awesome bread knife recommended on the Xmas thread recently which I am now lusting after... as a carpenter I assume he'd appreciate a good tool:

The best bread knife | Britain's bread saw | JonoKnife

A handcrafted bread saw based on the Appalachian bread knife or fiddle bow bread knife sourdough knife. The best bread knife for crusty bread and soft bread.

@WonderingWanda BILTONG! He's talked about that before! Any brand recommendations? I've no idea...

@Defiantlynot41 that looks like an ideal rabbit hole for me – thank you 😁

@CatMattress I think socks would actually go down well – I always feel like I haven't been creative enough with presents like that but then I have to remember it's not about me 😂

He sounds lovely! Some great ideas on here and I'm going to delve into that other thread.
Does he like wildlife? I bought my hard-to-buy-for DH a woldlife/trail camera which was a big hit.

SeaToSki · 26/10/2023 12:06

I have used Black Mountains Smokery before and they did the most lovely custom Christmas hamper for my parents during Covid (they took it for a Christmas day picnic) when we couldnt visit them. My parents said everything in it was wonderful and packed beautifully. Then can mix in stuff that needs to be fridged, they do a chilled delivery and then you hid those bits in the fridge until Xmas day when you sneak them back into the hamper before giving

The Elemis shaving foam last ages too, well worth it.

Lina stores does some lovely meal boxes if he likes Italian food.

gotomomo · 26/10/2023 12:08

If he wet shaves I recommend the Shetland soap company, added bonus it's a social enterprise too. Dp swears by it

WonderingWanda · 26/10/2023 12:13

@natura sorry I can't remember the brand I got for my dh. Lots out there though with different flavours.

TotalOverhaul · 26/10/2023 12:22

Would he like some really nice guitar picks or finger slides of different types (check which are good for blues playing), and a box to keep them in? or a set of spare strings?

If he wet shaves, Trumpers shaving soap in a little wooden bowl is lovely.

Maybe some specialist beers, tins of spiced nuts etc?

He sounds adorable btw. Clean, caring lumberjack who plays blues guitar. Can you clone him?
