Pretty sure DD is going to ask for a table football table

But we just don't have the space. We live in a flat, we don't have a garden and every inch of floor space/wall space is used.

Are table top ones any good? Is a half size table top one better than nothing? Or is it not the same thing at all? Is there such a thing as a decent yet fully fold-away-able table football set that can be dismantled each time and e.g. kept under the bed?

Is a fold up one an option as argos sell these?

How old is she as some of the smaller tables are meant for 4/5 years and she would be on her knees to play with it if shes older

BrightlyCloudedSky · 17/10/2023 13:15

12 and DS, who would have to play with her, is 14

What about Subbuteo? It’s huge, fills our dining table but can be folded into a small box?

drspouse · 19/10/2023 23:40

We have a table top one and it's fine. It is a little broken now (only the scoring part) and it wasn't that expensive.

Papillon23 · 20/10/2023 07:25

We used to have one which had fold away legs.

It's ancient so I've no idea if they still make them but it was like a trestle table leg set up with a table football top.

It would still have taken up a lot of room, even under the bed though - compared to the amount of room required for other toys and books etc.

Dotcheck · 20/10/2023 07:26

Surely it’s a Christmas WISH list not a demand letter?

Soffii87 · 20/10/2023 07:28

We have a big air hockey/pool table that folds up flat against the wall if that makes sense. So it only comes down while being used (takes 5 seconds) and then back away right after

BrightlyCloudedSky · 20/10/2023 07:40

@Favouritefruits thanks but it's the table football game she's after. She's not interested in actual football at all!

@Soffii87 I am not joking when I say we do not have a spare inch of wall space! I wouldn't be able to fold and stand anywhere, the only thing I can think of is something that would fit under a single bed.

@Dotcheck obviously it's a suggestions list. But she generally doesn't ask for anything and often her "list" is one item. So I'm looking for a feasible way to get one. If we can't, we can't 🤷‍♀️

Oh I missed the part that you don’t have wall space!
im stumped!
try and get her into something that’s smaller in size?!
or if she asks for it, ask her where she intends on putting it ? Maybe she’ll realise it’s not feasible?

Soffii87 · 20/10/2023 07:47

Or maybe she’ll be happy with an smaller one?

Brefugee · 20/10/2023 07:48

we have a tiny one, it's about A2 sized, with a lid.

If you have the cash, there's a Lego one?

Brefugee · 20/10/2023 07:50

on the other hand: she is at an age where it is ok to manage her expectations by pointing out the impracticality, how it won't fit anywhere, and if you have to store it dismaltled and build it up every time you want to use it, it will get used less and less.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but if you get in there now, and make it clear it is not going to happen - no matter how much she wants it and no matter how much you would like to grant her wish - it will be easier all round.

Oh that might be a possibility, it's a bit out of budget though. Could ask gp's to chip in for a joint as I think DS would like it too.

Yes, that was our immediate reaction. But I thought I'd do a little research anyway.

You're a lovely mum 🙂

I have my eye on the Lego one too

There are tables where the legs fold so that maybe it will fit under a bed - depending on how high the space is under the bed. One is the Garlando Foldy and here's a link to one of the retailers (it is also available from other retailers) ...
https://www.homeleisuredirect.com/football_tables/garlando_football_tables/garlando_foldy_football_table.html

According to the product information the "Garlando Foldy" weighs 78Kg which is going to be very heavy when you take it out from under the bed and try to put it away again. However, tables are usually heavier than this to stop them jerking about when people are playing a vigorous game. I don't think you'd be moving it up and down the stairs and you would probably use it in which ever room it is stored.

Best to allow at least 50cm clearance on each end of the table and allow at least about 90cm on each side of the table for the players.

Please check with the retailer to find the folded measurements to make sure it will fit where you want to store it (e.g. under the bed).

If you do buy a Garlando table the I recommend buying some official Garlando balls to go with it ...

Do they have table football in your children's schools? It might be worth encouraging their schools to buy a few tables. They can buy indoor tables as well as tables that are supposed to be suitable for outdoor use (although best if they are in a covered area). I can provide advice on which ones to buy if they are interested.

There is also the RobertSport Flexy table which folds but it appears to be out of stock in all the retailers I have looked at ...
