Im looking for a good festive read for my 15 year old daughter? She is not really into the gushy romantic Xmas books, but bit too old for kid’s Christmas stories…does any one have any recommendations?

I use this blog, OP. My DC are younger though.

Dickens is surprisingly easy to read so what about 'A Christmas Carol'?

oh and I also loved 'Skipping Christmas' byJohn Grisham ('Christmas with the Kranks' was based on it I think).

There are lots of murder mysteries which are the antithesis of the twee, gushy romances, as well as short story collections such as Murder Under the Christmas Tree. I also like the Christmas Edward Marston Railway Detective which is set in Victorian England.

Lost Christmas is a good one, Dickens, The Snow Queen, The Nutcracker.

Thanks everyone. some fab suggestions
She read Dickens, a Christmas carol couple of years back, and re reads it annually around Christmas
anything anti gush will be right up her street … so Christmas Murder mystery might be a good shout.. or something a little spooky.. any good krampus books out there?

This is a collection of spooky short stories set at Christmas.

I really enjoyed it as a teenager and some of the stories still stick with me now! I think it's out of print, but there's second-hand copies available from various sites if you Google.

“Murder at Christmas” is great. It’s an anthology of stories set at Christmas. One of them was made into an episode of Tales of the Unexpected.

A Christmas Story by Richard Burton (yes, the famous actor who married Elizabeth Taylor). He’s a talented writer.

The Christmas Pig by JK Rowling. Technically it’s children’s literature, but I enjoyed it myself.
