DIY advent calendar for adult

I'm making DP an advent calendar this year. I've done some Googling for ideas for things to fill it with, but most ideas are for kids' advent calendars.

What small but fun/useful items would you put into an advent calendar for a 40 year old man?

I do this every year for myself and DH, and popular past items have been:

• whiskey miniatures
• carmex lipbalm
• car screen wash tablets
• chewing gum
• nice individually wrapped chocolates
• lens cleaning cloth
• mini neutrogena hand cream
• mini Nivea men’s face cream
• mini deodorant

I repeat some of these throughout the month, so there might be three different whiskey minis or a few days with nice chocs, to save myself a few ideas!

IOU one movie night of your choice
IOU one breakfast in bed

Those are all things that would go in a Christmas stocking here.

We have a very simple advent calendar made from a set of mini pegs with numbers on them (from Tiger, years ago). I hang a biscuit from each peg (Nigella's Christmas decoration biscuits- they keep for MONTHS!).

All the things described upthread must add up to a fortune!

When did Advent calendars become about gifting, rather than just ticking off the days until Christmas?
