If you have a child around these ages what are you buying them?

My dc have not gave me any clues yet. I'm starting to think they don't want anything!

My almost 6 year old is getting smiggle stationary/pens, secret diary, squishmallows, Lego, and some board games. She asked for surprises when I asked her so hopefully I've covered all bases!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 11/10/2023 15:57

I have two DDs at either end of that age bracket.

Younger DD is getting...
Mermaid tail for swimming
Magic Mixie
Djeco mosaic craft kit
Glow art pad
Potion making kit
Set of books

From wider family...
Squishmallow
Sylvanian Families
Lego
Art and craft bits
More books

Older DD I'm more stuck on...
Possibly a sewing machine with fabrics
Make-up storage thing
LED lights

Not sure what else yet so open to suggestions!

SM4713 · 11/10/2023 17:19

My nieces have loved GALT branded kits. Over the years they've had rainbow making kit, science kit, my first clay kit etc. Very handy for rainy days.

They've also loved a lip gloss making kit and a bath bomb kits

Pop up books when younger
Glitter pens, pencils and sticker books

CowboyJoanna · 11/10/2023 18:16

8-year-old DD has pestered me for an assortment of things since September: she wants a Bitzee, some more Rainbow High dolls, more Barbies (thanks to the film), and now she wants this very specific teddy bear from IKEA...we don't even live near an IKEA Confused

Other things I think she'd like (because there's no way I can afford to get her everything):

  • Small squishmallows
  • Fidget toys
  • Glitter pens and notebooks
  • Bracelet making kits

9-year-old DS never asks for anything because he feels too shy...but DH says he saw him looking up football tables on the Ipad, so thats a definite.
Lots of Minecraft and Man City stocking filler things too because he's mad over them.

Also he started collecting Pokemon cards a few months ago, he already likes the games and I think he wants the Scarlet & Violet "dlc".

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 11/10/2023 18:28

Lego, lego and more lego.

Other stuff mine have enjoyed at those ages are some really good felt pens and crayons, sketch books, teddies (especially geeky ones, ammonites etc from Everything Dinosaur are brilliant), books, more books, book tokens, gravitrax, games like gloom, dobble, sushi go, deep sea adventure etc, random stuff like ferrous fluid.

Chasetherainblownfearsaway · 11/10/2023 23:10

DD6.5 is getting:

  • Gravitrax
  • potion making kit
  • spin to survive deadly jungle book
  • small science or craft kit (e.g. crystal growing)

Stocking fillers

  • head torch
  • cheetah water bottle
  • kids' calculator (she loves maths)
  • bits and bobs of stationery
  • slipper socks

I might end up getting another book or two but I'm trying to be sensible this year.

noscoobydoodle · 12/10/2023 11:04

I have 2 DCs in this category. They have very different tastes but things they both want (or got for birthdays):
Airup
Squishmallow
Led lights for bedroom
Oodie
Slime
Robux

Sugarfree23 · 23/10/2023 22:45

7 just before Christmas wants
Nerf goggles
Nerf waistcoat.
Lego

Other ideas
Switch games
Maybe a skate board
Basketball goal

13 just aftar wants
Phone
Lego

Other ideas
New curtains for his room etc

Scraping the barrel of ideas.

elQuintoConyo · 24/10/2023 12:31

On 12yo DS list (hes not getting it all! Plus he has a post-xmas birthday):

Bluetooth speaker
headset for the play station (his is old and bust)
Play station duvet cover
gaming chair
binoculars
Nike bumbag
LED strip lights for his room
Digital watch
Irish flag and Union Jack cushion covers (his are currently a bit childish.)
Big blanket
Phone case
Compass

His stocking will have some Robux, a box of Maltesers, a mousemat for the computer (he`s using a square of felt at the moment!) and a goofy pen, he gets one every year. Maybe a more grown up shower gel - any suggestions greatly received.

He´s desperate for a phone case, so might buy it this weekend with his own pocket money. I´m abroad, and my parents will transfer cash so that´ll contribute to some things. TBH I don´t think we´ll get him the gaming chair; the play station is in the living room and he does homework at the dining table, so it´s something I´ll transfer to next year´s list.

I´ve already bought a few bits of clothing, including a Vuelta d´España tshirt because it came though our town last August and he loved watching it. Plus it´s black, he´s just started secondary and is very much into black clothes <small sob>

CowboyJoanna · 25/10/2023 20:13

God I forgot to say what my 6-year-old daughter wants. She's a huge tomboy so it looks more like a boy's christmas list but if she likes it, she likes it.

Shes mad over Star Wars. The top thing she really wants is the lego tie bomber starfighter set but I think she's a little young for it (the box says 9+). Her heart is set on it but I cant find a normal plastic version of it anywhere Sad If only they made the star wars toys like they did when DH was little (he was the one who got her into it!)

Other things Im considering are spiderman things, hot wheel cars, ninja turtle figures... and of course, extra star wars stuff like star wars figures, darksaber, water bottle

bluechameleon · 25/10/2023 20:27

@CowboyJoanna I'd get her the Lego - you can build it together and then she can play with it. And she may be fine with it - my 5yo can build 9+ sets, whereas my 9yo finds them a bit too tricky.

Good idea actually! But I think I'll let her dad help instead Grin

blabla2023 · 02/11/2023 18:56

Theatre tickets!
Youngest gets Nutcracker tickets together with the nutcracker tour at the Royal Opera House.
Oldest gets Wizard of Oz tickets.

MabelMoo23 · 02/11/2023 20:20

Lots of people mentioning LED lights for bedroom - any suggestions as not sure what I’m looking for!!

livingthegoodlife · 02/11/2023 20:29

@blabla2023 whats the nutcracker tour?

my lot have asked for:
scooter
Sylvanian families
barbie reveal
hobby stuff
furbie (not sure about this, its tat isnt it?)
headphones
instax camera

i think they need more toys/things to do on their lists

blabla2023 · 02/11/2023 20:40

@livingthegoodlife the royal opera house does a nutcracker themed tour behind the scenes, especially for children (and parents). they are about 2 hours before some of tvd performances and last about 1 hour

livingthegoodlife · 02/11/2023 20:51

thanks @blabla2023 sounds wonderful

Mamalamadrama · 02/11/2023 20:54

TheGriffle · 03/11/2023 23:56

My two girls are 6 and 10 and they have had previously or are getting this year:

Slime, Fidgets, Crafty stuff (proper sets and boxes of bits like paper, glitter glue etc) Barbies, lol dolls, Stationery, Nice colouring books and pens, Hama beads, Aquabeads, Easel with chalk and whiteboard markers, Bookeez, make up, Squishmallows, Bubble tea kit, Robux, Bracelet making kit, potions kit, Jelly jewellery kit, Minecraft Lego sets, Disney 100 Lego set, Basketball hoop and a basketball each.

They have also both asked for a bike and an IPad each. We’re thinking of getting second hand bikes for their spring birthdays rather than for Christmas and as we’ve had an awful crappy year and their IPads are old, one is 12 years old! We have decided they are getting new iPads with a robust case each and Dh said you can get a game pad so they can both play Roblox on them apparently. Dd1 is starting secondary next year so we think she’ll need something more up to date as we don’t have a laptop or computer at home.

PhantomErik · 04/11/2023 09:09

DS11 is all about lego this year, specifically Ninjago so that covers most of the budget. Other things we're getting are a couple of books (Space Band & Danger Gang), Jurassic Park cards to add to his collection, zuru smashers dino island, sketch pad & pens, pringles & a new phone case (he's not interested in phones but needs it for secondary school so he's just got my old handset).

He's also getting the new Christmasaurus book on 1st December.
