What to buy DS2 for Christmas

I am struggling with what to buy for DS2, who will be nearly 11 months at Christmas. I have an older DS too and so we haven’t needed to buy anything new for DS2, he has all of his old clothes, toys, books etc. Obviously when he gets older and has his own interests, he will get his own presents but I’m really stuck for what to get him this year for his first Christmas!

I don’t want to go crazy and buy bits for the sake of it, I just want a few things to celebrate his first Christmas. If any of you have any ideas of things you have/would buy in this situation, I would be extremely grateful!

We've been in that position (and actually are again this year). Maybe forward think a bit about stuff that may be useful in a few months or later in the year? A scuttlebug or something he can move around on when he's mobile or a trike maybe? If you have all of those big ticket items maybe just go with some bath toys, a nice book or something? He'll probably be more interested in absorbing what's going on so you won't want to overdo it especially if he has everything he needs at the moment and with having a birthday around the corner from Christmas.

Were in the same position. Only really buying things for our one year old- for the sake of our 6 year old.

We're getting:
bath toys
books (mainly from carboots - 'thats not my..' and Peppa pig ones mainly as older Ds still has Julia Donaldson and other more story type books)
Older Ds also had alot of old Duplo so I might buy one new set (maybe a Spiderman set or the alphabet train) as a main present so that it can be added to the existing Duplo box
Clothes in the next size up

Thanks both, some great ideas here! Will definitely look at bath toys, it would be nice to have something for him that hasn’t been chewed already by his older brother.

@BlairWaldorfOG I hadn’t even thought about birthday, I was so focused on Christmas that my mind had blanked it out. I can use some of these ideas for that too.

@MyMitMoo same here, older DS still has Julia Donaldson but he has grown out of his ‘that’s not my’ collection. I’ll definitely look for some of them.

Dd3 is getting some bits for her room - a wooden height chart, personalised night light, toy box and as well as her own egg cup with name on for our Sunday breakfast!

I would buy a "Baby's First Christmas" type bauble for the tree, as a keepsake that will be used every year and is clearly his!
If you have stockings, things like a bath toy, tube of bubbles, baby friendly snacks/chocolate, character toothpaste with matching toothbrush and bubble bath, pyjamas/babygros. Just upgraded items of things you would usually buy, but so that he has a stocking like his big brother.
For a "main" present, what about a bubble machine? Or a swing for the garden. Or a mini ball pit if you have room.

For my baby DS first Christmas last year I got him his keepsake bits (personalised Stocking, wooden Christmas box and tree bauble) plus a few new board books, bath squirters and small Grimms toys. I wanted him to have something nice of his very own but not go too mad with the big stuff as we already have so much in the house from DS1.
This year are adding to the existing Duplo/books collections, and he's getting a hopper as his main gift. DS1 didn't have a toy like that as a toddler but has got a space hopper so I thought it would be nice for them to have a similar gift and bounce around together.
Baby DS has just turned 1 and is a big fan of those magic water painting books so I've got him a Christmas one and will see if I can find some paint brushes better for little ones.
Discovered Child's Farm do a festive Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows bubble bath last year so that's going in the stocking again this year as it smelled sooo good 🥰

A teddy thats his, bath toys do need replacing.
Could you get away with 'recycing' some of big brothers toys. Or is their anything that you could buy some extra bits for? An extra duplo set or an extra toy car for toot-toot?

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I hadn’t thought about bath toys but they definitely seem to be the way forward and I think he would love some of the other suggestions on here too 😊
