Christmas Eve raclette

I know quite a few people do fondue on Christmas Eve. I don't have a fondue set but I do have a new raclette set I'm looking for an excuse to try. Is there a way to make it festive? Hoping a raclette aficionado is able to guide me please 🧀

Oh my goshhh! We have raclette on Xmas eve when my uncle hosts. I look forward to these years!! Make it festive by wearing Christmas hats and enjoy the glorious cheesey goodness! We usually have it with a leg of Parma ham or arborio(sp) ham, and French bread. It’s one of my favourite things and I’m so very jealous that you are having it this year!

We had a raclette for Christmas dinner one year. I prepped the steak and chicken the day before and chopped the cheese on the day plus all the trimmings of a traditional dinner.

Great idea. Stick a jar of cranberry sauce and a few crackers on the table and it's Christmas!

We do ours on boxing day, with the leftovers!

We have steak with it too and my little boy has taken to setting the table and making a little Christmas scene with the cake figures in his raclette pan on the table ready to go! 😂

What's a racklette?

Jessforless · 04/10/2023 15:04

I love Raclette! We do asparagus wrapped in Parma ham, strips of steak and chicken, bread, different types of cheese… mmm my mouth is watering.

Raclette is a Swiss cheese that you melt on a little mini grill on three table @Bbq1 . You pour the melted Raclette cheese on boiled new potatoes served with pickled onions (or any pickles really). It is delicious!

We often have ours on boxing day, or in the few days after! We don't bother to make it festive. Just enjoy! We often have a festive dessert instead!

Thanks @ ThatMustBeMy Dream, sounds delicious!

Ooh you’ve made me want to get mine out! .We have previously used it for Xmas leftovers, I seems to recall shredded sprouts and chestnuts working well!

We typically use for with steak/pork, cold meats, cheeses, potato. Anything goes, really. A nice chunk of buttery bread on the side. Yum.

Our Christmas Eve tradition is a curry, but now I'm kicking myself. What a great idea! Will have to save it for 27/28 I guess.

Bbq1 · 04/10/2023 18:26

Si, I'm picturing a fondue type thing. Is that how it works?

BarbieKew · 04/10/2023 22:10

@Bbq1 mine has a stone top (that I cook meat on) with trays underneath for smaller things. A bit like this. It’s a really nice sociable way to eat.

That looks delicious, @BarbieKew

We've had raclette for Christmas Eve a few times. It's a great Xmas eve meal. We didn't bother making it more Christmassy but quite life the idea of cranberry dressing or some Christmassy chutney with it.

We usually do pigs in blankets and sprouts on ours to make it festive! Sometimes stuffing balls too.
New potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, salami, a green salad and crusty bread
