DN age 10 has taken an interest in cooking and baking.

Looking for recommendations on decent food/baking/cookery type toys or kits.

Budget £30-40

She has a smoothie maker already which she absolutely loves.

TIA!

I would buy the real thing rather than toys. Waffle/toastie maker, baking equipment, sharp knives etc

smallshinybutton · 01/10/2023 12:43

Don't get a toy at that age. Get a cook book

Pastry cutters? cake decorating tools? A toastie maker (you can get quite adventurous with toasties: pesto, tomato and mozarella; serrano ham and gruyere; brioche with nutella and banana etc.)

Could you put together a little kit of interesting baking ingredients? E.g. a little tin of golden syrup, some fancy dried fruit, crystallised ginger, dessicated coconut, etc, with a cookbook? Small tins/packet in a box with the book would look really cute.

Ooh yes my DSD appreciated a piping kit and a turntable at that age

Sushi making kit?

BoohooWoohoo · 01/10/2023 12:55

I agree that you should buy adult stuff rather than a toy.

I would personally create a kit of my own. Last week Aldi middle aisle had some bits to coincide with Bake Off returning. Keep an eye out at the supermarkets for seasonal sprinkles and items like gold and silver edible spray and edible glitter.

My DD is a very keen baker. Things she loves are:
Waffle maker
Ice cream maker
Baking set with turntable, piping nozzles and bags, pallette knifes, icing stencils, pretty sprinkles etc
Nice baking moulds
Cookie cutters
Personalised baking apron
Cake stand

I've been looking at the Nosh for Teens cookbook for a similar aged child. May need a bit of help/supervision at that age but it looks like a good book and covers snacks as well as meals etc. It has links to videos to help as well.
