Christmas Hampers - anyone making them this year? Can we share ideas?

I'm saving for my wedding and thinking of making some handmade hampers for family to save a bit of money and hopefully get them just as lovely things.

Wondered if anyone else was making them - handmade or bought, and wanted to share ideas of what they plan to put in for different people?

Currently I'm thinking of making my own fruit gin, bacon jam and some sweet or savoury biscuits. Maybe pistachio spread too.

Quite like the idea of theming the hamper to the individual as well. Friend loves baking so may do her a baking hamper so less handmade.

Anyone else doing this this year?

Love this thread, I love giving and receiving hampers. Not really to save money just because i think they're lovely. I'm not very good with the homemade but tend to buy things and make up my own. Elderly family members last year I did:

  • a book
  • Nice hand wash
  • Xmas candle
  • homemade chutney
  • savoury biscuits and cheese
  • hot chocolate spoon/stirrer
  • bottle of wine
  • Christmas mini tray bakes
  • box of chocolates
  • kids school photo

Hobbycraft have nice hamper baskets and crates

@Warelodge you brilliant person, you have just given me a great idea for my book loving DD. She usually sends me a booklist for Christmas and unwraps them all on Christmas Day but making it a hamper where she opens one a month and doesn’t know what she is getting would be so much more fun. Thank you.

Very grateful for this thread! Have saved loads of ideas already.

I think giving hamper gifts should help my present anxiety. Now I have a son I know we will receive more visitors/gifts for him and don’t like not returning but then feel silly all of a sudden starting to buy for loads of family (especially my DPs!) I’m hoping to give a little hamper for each family and can downplay them as “oh just a little something of silly things I made nothing fancy!”

I have bought these hampers which I think are a good price and perfect size The works hampers

Truffles are a great thing to make, get kids helping too. Lidl and aldi own brand dark chocolate works well for them, liqueurs/spirits if you wish or use natural flavours, dried raspberries work well to avoid booze. If you can locate black cocoa powder it's great to use that on half the batch to roll in.

Love all these suggestions.
I've currently got Limoncello, Orangecello and Passion fruit vodka marinating.
Additionally I will make chilli garlic crisp oil,
cheese star biscuits, chocolate refrigerator cake. Lemon salt and vanilla vodka. Plus I seen a recipe for a cream liqueur.

On the non edible side I've made dried oranges with cloves, a wreath using grapevines and dried lemon and orange slices. Also some pine cones with wax for fire starters (log burners and fire pits as opposed to reckless Prodigy behaviour). Also included are a handful of pine cones with Christmas ribbon. Just for decoration. And finally a Christmas pot holder as a few years back I was give a stash of Christmas fabric but just in squares. I'm not a quilter and it was all I could think to make.

Love those oranges with cloves. I'd be pleased to receive one or two of those even without all of the other items.

Make this simple sloe gin from BBC Good Food in advance and leave to mature for a richly rounded, fruity flavour. It makes for a perfect homemade gift.
