Gravitrax - longterm play value or one-hit wonder?

My kids 6 & 9 went to a toy demonstration thing and were really taken with Gravitrax (fancy marble run with all sorts of cool stuff). It's expensive though.

They both have birthdays coming up and Christmas so half thinking about buying a kit but not sure if they'll get into it for a couple of days then just leave it in the cupboard if it gets fiddly to set up from scratch!

Anyone have any and does it get played with?

It’s really cool. Got it for my then 8.5yr old for Christmas last year and he’s never had it out again. But that may be just him. Think I played with it more than him

Ours comes out mostly for playdates these days. It does come out though. My kids are 8 and 5.

Mine need a bit of prompting to get it out but once it's out will spend a good couple of hours playing with it.

Could have written this word for word (same age and everything). I think it's great. I got a large set (I think it was the obstacle starter set - loads of cool bits included). DS built the suggested tracks in the instructions one afternoon and hasn't touched it since.

The Turing tumble probably has more longevity.

My 9 year old got a set a couple of years ago and he's played with it quite a lot. He's made up all the different runs in the beginners set a few times each now and has been asking for another set. Unfortunately he lacks the imagination to make up his own runs!

My dc love ours, I got the basic set a few years ago and we now have loads including bits that my dc have used their own money for. My dc are between 7 and 12 and there aren’t many toys that my eldest wants to play with but gravitrax is one.

My DC only played with this if I got it out and set it up. They joined in but never got it out themselves. They’re 15 and 11 now and would probably still join in if I set it up!
