Anyone else like me.
The big stuff, decorations, food, I can do it's easy almost.

But the small stuff is hard.

So I love a good set of crackers. I recycle, reuse all year so filling my own crackers is not fun, for me.

I want crackers to keep everyone at the table a bit longer, I love the musical ones but we have those (I keep the bits), racing Santa's, yes still have those.

Last year was a bit of a struggle. Magic tricks in the end not my favourite.

So this year I have found some. (Kuckoo music box). Ordered.

I am similar with advent calendars

And stockings.

Big stuff I can do.

Ooh OP I feel you! I am a massive overthinker when it comes to details. Crackers sound brill though!

WhyHasAllTheRumGone · 20/09/2023 22:13

They sound lovely. Where did you get them from?

frozendaisy · 20/09/2023 23:10

We shall attempt to reproduce the music box tune on the previous xylophone notes

@frozendaisy I've had both the music box crackers and the xylophone crackers before - both were brilliant. That is until of course, the kids broke one of the bits on the xylophone and peeled the cardboard off the music box. Sigh.

I'm in need of new inspiration this year - better get hunting Amazon!

I ordered a small door wreath yesterday (from Brand Alley).
And I think I've finished DH's presents.
Nothing for DD or anyone else yet (we have a raft of birthdays including hers before Christmas).
We've also started thinking about Christmas food.
To be fair, I'd happily think about Christmas from March onwards 😁

I hear you! I love a good cracker and they most certainly matter - additionally though, I give myself the extra pressure of the colour scheme matching with the theme I'm going for this year.

Last year it was "woodland" - lots of autumnal colours (I had mustard napkins), toadstools, etc. and I loved it.

Tbh though, not sure anyone apart from my Mum noticed and understood how much thought I'd put into it!

caringcarer · 21/09/2023 13:46

I always start on the Xmas food. Every time I see a good offer on gammon, beef, chocolates, chocolate oranges, or frozen Xmas food I pick it up. I like to spread out the cost. I also pick up small bits for adult DC stockings. I've bought some nice strong nail clippers for one son and a car care kit for the other. I'm on the lookout for Star Wars car air fresheners. Not much but a start. I generally stick with M&S crackers. A mini screwdriver that is great for glasses screws, a mini pack of cards, mini mirror, a pen etc.

I officially want a woodland themed Christmas!

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 21/09/2023 13:51

We had a box of crackers with kazoos in them one Christmas. They went down very well, the box came with game instructions and long lists of tunes we were supposed to play, or guess what others were attempting. I haven't laughed like that for years!

Glorifried · 21/09/2023 14:35

We have older teens and did mystery message themed crackers last year, they were great with everone working together to try and solve them.

Ordered more via some Kickstarter business this year!

@Vinrouge4 last year's were these: https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/puzzlepostuk/product/6-escape-room-puzzle-christmas-crackers

I was really pleased, after dinner instead of everyone getting up and leaving the table we all enjoyed trying to solve these!

Thanks so much. I’ll take a look.

NotFastButFurious · 21/09/2023 18:49

If you’re not precious about your table settings, one year we bought a colour in table cloth (it was from B&M or somewhere like that). The intention was to keep the kids occupied over dinner but in reality the adults stayed at the table to colour in well after the kids had finished!

CamdenLurker · 21/09/2023 20:42

Just looked at the Robin Reed crackers and you can also get some that contain a set of handbells, seriously considering buying those!

Those are the ones I like the look of too….but only myself and DP so don’t think we have enough hands!

whereaw · 21/09/2023 22:04

Thank you OP I have copied you and bought the same! Crackers have always been such a letdown and when I tried to make myself they didn't go 'pop' in the same way as ready made! I

CornishTiger · 21/09/2023 22:15

I have these for this year. Was reduced in Sainsburys after Christmas

MerylSqueak · 21/09/2023 22:54

Lakeland have a set if crackers with a Whoduunit game this year. It's not in stock yet, but I'm getting those.

Last year we got a Cryptic Killers murder mystery pack for after dinner. It was fab and kept everyone going for hours.

littleblackcat27 · 22/09/2023 07:02

Great idea for a thread OP! I've just had a look on Amazon and put some crackers in basket with little xmas type lego figures to build = a family of lego enthusiasts here - will go down a treat
