Ideas for an 11 year old boy

I’m a bit stuck for ideas for DS this year, he’s just moved up to secondary school

He isn’t very sporty, he likes gadgets, drawing & airplanes

has a phone, iPad & switch

so far he’s asked for a case for his iPad that comes with a Bluetooth keyboard and some Simbrix

would love to find 3 or 4 things to surprise him with, ideally under £30 each. He isn’t a kid who wants much so whenever I ask he just says he doesn’t need anything but would like the 2 things above

if anyone can recommend some good quality felt too pens I’d be grateful as he keeps borrowing his sisters paperchase double ended ones

previous hits have been a lava lamp, remote control helicopter, trainers & air pods

at the moment all I’ve got that he doesn’t know about is some pjs & slippers 🤷‍♀️

Has he got posca pens? My creative 10 yr old loves them!

superstar84 · 17/09/2023 17:11

Oh we do have Posca pens but he’s never really used them after using them on a wooden storage box

Ohuhu alcohol markers work well and are blendable. You need thick paper to sue them in though.

Hermittrismegistus · 17/09/2023 17:15

to use them on though*

Hits for my ds when he was 11 were:

Oodie (cheaper copy from next)
Fleece bedding
Pizza squashie type cushion
Beanbag seat used for gaming
Led lights
Jordan trainers

superstar84 · 17/09/2023 19:40

A pizza squishy cushion would be a great idea, he likes watching tv in bed but complains about the headboard

My crafty dd was 11 last year and some of her favourite things were:

Graphic markers
Calligraphy pens
Bullet journal
A book nook craft set
Diamond art
A night sky projector
A water speaker

This year I have bought her a cheaper brand go pro type camera.

Gravitrax?

TadpolesInPool · 18/09/2023 01:01

Books, books and more books.

To the point that we've bought a kindle to make it easier and cheaper...

He did love the youtuber tshirt, beanie and hoody though. One of his favourite gaming youtuber. I was amazed at the quality!

Motion drone! Around the £25. Red5 ones are good but worth purchasing a spare battery at a few quid too!

Is he into anything like anime or anything? Maybe start some collectibles such as figurines/Funko pops?

FortniteGal · 18/09/2023 20:09

If he likes planes then how about a radio scanner so he can hear the pilots in the sky? Including 36,000ft in the air. Then he could use a plane tracking app on the iPad to match up the planes to which ones he’s hearing. https://rugbyradiosuk.com/collections/airband-receivers

Graphics digital drawing pad thing to attach to a computer
Bluetooth speaker/headphones/sleep headphones (like a headband thing)
Comic blanks book
Anything from Menkind! Retro gaming thing?
New Switch game
Stuff from Redbubble based on favourite TV show/movie/computer game
Escape room at home thing

Britneyfan · 20/09/2023 04:29

@TadpolesInPool was it MatPat? My son loves him and I have bought stuff from there every year and have also been pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price even factoring in shipping/tax charges from US!

TadpolesInPool · 22/09/2023 15:43

@Britneyfan no it was Jelly

Filterphobia · 23/09/2023 20:07

My son is the same age and has similar interests.

He has asked for an app controlled Lego technic set. I am also buying him a bubble tea set, an air up bottle, Japanese sweets and some smaller stocking fillers.

Last year we bought him this smart house set and it kept him busy for weeks, then he displayed it in his room.
