Quality Street alternatives

Now that they've changed to those god awful paper wrappers I definitely won't be buying any this year. To me it's not Christmas without QS but seeing as the Quality but is a complete misnomer and they are now not very nice I need an alternative. The M&S ones are no e and still have the shiny jewel wrappers unless they have followed suit.
What do you buy if you no longer buy the traditional tubs of QS/Roses/Heroes/Celebrations?

Last year I made our own. I bought a Christmassy cake storage tin from Lakeland and filled it with:
Maltesers truffles www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/311808733
Chocolate orange truffles www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/309207462
Aero Bliss www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/306478634
Assorted Lindor truffles

This year I’ll also add Toblerone truffles www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/314432360and Cadbury’s chunks https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/312093446

Haven't bought them for ages now, but as they've now moved to paper wrappers, I think I might actually give them a go this year.

Love this idea!

JingsMahBucket · 16/09/2023 20:58

@Bubbleandsqueak22 that’s a really good idea. You also get to customize the selection to whatever your family enjoys. That would likely make a great gift for others too: Bespoke Christmas Chocolate Selection Tins™️. 😂

Nonplusultra · 16/09/2023 21:03

I haven’t really accepted the change from the old foil and crinkly plastic wrappers yet. We used to save up the plastic to make stained glass window pictures and sun catchers. And put them in the fire to watch the flames change colours.

I can appreciate that paper wrappers are a responsible and sustainable choice but the shiny wrappers were the last glimmer of nostalgia because the chocolates themselves taste nothing like they once did.

We had a box of Tony’s Tinies which were nice, so I might get some of those again. I’m not really sure what else.

likeafireworkshow · 16/09/2023 21:09

@Bubbleandsqueak22 I love this idea and may steal it, but I'm sure I paid about £4.50 for a smallish box of the (bloody delicious) Toblerone truffles last week....

Could this be the worlds most expensive chocolate selection tin? I mean, needs must and im definitely on bird but I may not add up what it costs...

Willow4987 · 18/09/2023 21:02

I’m similar to @Bubbleandsqueak22

i get my largest Emma bridgewater Christmas cake tin and fill it with the selection boxes we like (heroes and celebrations) and then top up with other things like the Lindt balls etc

CheersToMe · 18/09/2023 21:13

We have the personalised QS tin from a few years ago. I usually buy, when on offer, tubs of QS, Heroes etc and packs of different flavour Lindor. Will look at the M&S and Sainsbury's tubs too. Throw in some chocolate coins and anything else that catches my eye.

I'd splash out on Lindor pick n mix but you can't get all the good flavours in the UK.
