Xmas presents for teen boys?

Whatsthepoint1234 · 25/08/2023 21:02

Normally I get all my boys presents bought before the end of September so Christmas is spent enjoying myself! I also like to get my dc’s presents sorted before I move onto family and friends. This year I’m stuck with ds13, when I’ve asked him what he wants he just shrugs. He’s quite nerdy and likes dads army (tv show), Minecraft and sims 4, coding and building robots and ww2. We also have a family switch but he’s said he has all the games he wants and all the sims expansions he wants. I’ve only spent £45 on his so far but his brother has about £150 worth of presents.
What I’ve got him so far:
Agatha Christie Miss Marple book boxset
A new Raspberry Pi hat

My DS has a lamp like the moon. The white ball sits on a wooden frame, but is separate, and its colour changing.

@Talipesmum Ill have a look!

@DustyLee123 do you know where it’s from?

Can’t you leave just the rest of his present shopping until much later and do everything else. Spending £100 on stuff seems mad when by Xmas he might have a clearer idea, or want expensive sweatshirt or something. I don’t think leaving his final gift buying until the end of November will stop you enjoying Christmas!

Whatsthepoint1234 · 25/08/2023 21:58

@TheHomeEdit I’m autistic and find organisation really hard - particularly if I don’t follow my routine! My ds isn’t the sort of kid to spring stuff on me - he’s already got a Christmas list that I got the raspberry pi hat off of. His grandma and brother are getting the other stuff 🙂.

@DustyLee123 thanks for the idea I’ve just ordered it. On sale as well so only £18.99! Still got more to get. I’m such a grinch - Christmas drives me mad.

You’re welcome. Boys can be so hard to buy for, but mine always appreciates new boxers and socks.

They just start getting as hard to buy for as adults. I’m getting my teen boy sweets and snacks, bath and hair stuff from Lush and a couple books. Oh and a Banksy poster he wanted. I would add in pyjamas etc but he’ll need warm ones from November

I posted this on another thread, might be relevant to you too, Qwertee has loads of brilliant geeky t-shirt designs, they do special offers, limited runs, user selected prints of the week, it's all fun and they are great quality.

@Whatsthepoint1234 sounds like you're getting sorted, well done! My son is the same age but very good at writing lists 🤣 We normally get a lot of Lego and mechanics sets but he has already decided he would like a metal detector and a organ this year (it's his bday in Dec as well and we also get all grandparents presents). Not sure if the detector would be of interest?
Are you able to tell me a little about the Sims 4 coding? I am clueless in this area, but he has loved IT in year 7 and has been doing some additional STEM courses in coding. I am wondering whether we should be thinking of something like this?

He doesn’t do sims 4 coding - he just uses cheat codes! However he codes stuff on Minecraft in python on his raspberry pi which is like a mini computer you can use to build robots or even install Minecraft and code stuff in python! The raspberry pi hat is an attachment for his computer that he adds on to start building a robot. To use a raspberry pi all you need is a tv, hdmi cable to attach the raspberry pi to the tv and a keyboard and laptop! Ds also does the National Cipher Challenge every year and this year he’s doing a coding competition called cyber discovery. Ds also does coding challenges online! I think he uses a website called CodeChef. I would definitely recommend the raspberry pi ds has this one https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-compute-module-4 and a gazillion different ‘hats’ which are like the add ons to make a robot.

@ArthurChristmas22 funnily enough we have a metal detector because my husband used to go ‘treasure hunting’ with his friends. An organ? As in the instrument…. or some kidneys!?

OP posts:
ArthurChristmas22 · 27/08/2023 19:21

@Whatsthepoint1234 thank you! I will go looking. Organ, musical instrument although sometimes I feel like I'm selling my kidney 🤣 He plays the guitar, but starting high school he's been playing the organ and now wants one too! It makes a pleasant change from Lego tbh 🤣

A furry onesie always goes down well with ds (15 next week).

doodlejump1980 · 28/08/2023 19:49

@ArthurChristmas22 You can sponsor an organ pipe in York Minster - cool organ gifts there in their online shop
