AIBU to be sad that Christmas UK is no longer a thing?

About now they'd be reporting on the Christmas in July press shows, telling us what the supermarkets would be stocking for Christmas. They'd be excited that the back of the year is broken and it's all downhill to Christmas. They'd be soon gearing up for the start of the 100 day countdown in September.

Since I discovered them in 2013 they were such a huge part of my Christmas run up, mainly because other than here nobody else seemed arsed about Christmas until 1 December. I loved their nostalgic posts and videos and the Christmas TV/food/markets/events news.

I know that Nick and Linus who ran it read here - if they see this, you're very missed even though I totally understand why you called it a day (and I hope you're both well!).

But selfishly I wish Christmas UK was still around because the Christmas run up just isn't the same without it!

I've never heard of this and I LOVE Christmas. Was it a website or an app?

jonahjones · 23/07/2023 15:56

No idea what you mean, what is Christmas UK? never heard of it.

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2023 15:58

I’ve not heard of it either, perhaps that’s why it went 🤔

ToastandJamandTea · 23/07/2023 15:58

I loved it too. It was lovely seeing the same familiar posters every year.
I also would log in at this time and miss it ☹️

Not heard of this either and I'm crazy for Christmas - although I don't like to wish my time away!

memyselfi · 23/07/2023 16:03

Was it a thread ?
I've no idea what Christmas UK is .

QVC have this weekend as their Christmas in July but I've not heard of it generally.

GillianMcQueef · 23/07/2023 16:09

It was a website, but they had a SM presence as well. Used to be quite popular here.

Brands traditionally hold press shows/events in July to showcase their Christmas offerings - they're often properly festive events even though it's high summer (although this year you could be forgiven for thinking it's late autumn!). Christmas UK used to post reports from them so you'd know exactly what confectionery M&S were going to have in or heat decorations JL were going to stock. A lovely glittery festive interlude in the middle of summer! The events will still be going on but sadly I'm not sure where they'll be reported now CUK is no more.

I've just had a look at the website and it looks like you can view the old posts. I suppose there is only so many posts you can make about the run up to Christmas. I have already stated on some present shopping to keep the cost down but to be honest I don't start thinking about Christmas until December.

You know OP, just before coming here I went to check Christmas UK just in case they did Christmas in July. I did have a quick look at their Twitter feed. I'll miss them too this year! Always loved counting down with them.

Hawkins0001 · 23/07/2023 17:53

I'd prefer Christmas to start straight after hallowween

I love Christmas, I would have loved this. However I keep myself busy with the Christmas threads, apps, planning and movies24 that have Christmas movies the whole of July! I occasionally watch the odd one or two after I’ve been productive and brought some Christmas presents.
