Stocking filler list for older teens

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 08/07/2023 22:25

Hello everyone
I'm trying to compile a stocking filler list fir my boy teens 16 and 19. I'm trying to give useful things and maybe a better brand that they would normally buy.

So far I have

Pringles
Pants
Socks
Body sprays

Any other suggestions? The stockings are pillow case size 🙄 they would not enjoy mini games or sport related items

SootspriteSearcher · 08/07/2023 22:55

My dds are 15 & 11, I have got a whole load of stuff in my basket on temu! Pin badges, mini lego sets, tshirt, bag, drinks bottle, hat, stickers, wireless headphones, card games, thermal printer, chain for her jeans, purse, stationary, fun cooking/homewear things, novelty jokey things. All related to their interests.

All v cheap and the stuff I have ordered so far has been pretty good quality for the price I paid.

I have younger dc but I’m also thinking of practical gifts this year

decent swimming goggles
good related items (rather than tat)
towel (sports towel that dries quickly)

football gloves

AssertiveGertrude · 08/07/2023 22:57

I know. Why is anyone thinking about Christmas?! It's bloody roasting!

Quite agree. What sort of maniac leaves it until July to start thinking about Christmas?!

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 09/07/2023 07:38

Thank you so much for some really helpful ideas.

Conveniently, the main expensive family birthdays are over for the year and my attention and finances now turn to Christmas 🎅🏻

I love how posters come on to state its July. As if the OP wouldn't know this. Its such weird behaviour for adults to come online and purposely try to belittle people who are clearly trying to plan ahead.

Anyway, haven't you heard of COL? It means that some people have had to start planning earlier than usual to afford things later on in the year (surely that's obvious?)

And also, it's the Christmas Board. Another thing that's pretty obvious.

Money worries don't go away just because it's hot outside. If only the sun would melt worries away, aye?

Please don't get anything from temu, you are just letting your ds' know its okay to support slave labour if you do.

You've been given some great suggestions so far.

Depending on interests, some things I have found:
grow your own chilies set if they are in to cooking.
Dry shampoo if they like to go to festivals/camping.
Bike repair kit.
Gloves with lights on the fingers (great if they upgrade/build their own computers).
Shower steamers
Shower radio

DustyLee123 · 09/07/2023 07:58

Mine likes the Bulldog brand of shaving stuff. I always put it in his stocking, he doesn’t buy it himself.

I suggested temu only as I've noticed quite a few of my local quirky shops are selling the items from there at an inflated price. Eg dd1 fell in love with a bag that looked like a magic book £45 in that shop, £9 on temu. It is exactly the same. All the clothes they sell, earrings, accessories are all exactly like temu and shein even down to the sizing and quality. Box of random pins £4 each, between 35p and £1.60 each on temu. They are the same even down to the slightly off colouring on some character ones. Jeans £40 in the shop, exactly the same £10 from shein. So just because its local it doesn't necessarily mean it's ethically sourced.

So yes in an ideal world I would love to buy everything local and ethically produced, but I'm not going to pay inflated prices when I can save money on my limited budget. Where I can, I buy second hand, from vinted, or handmade from local artists but unfortunately I can't do that for everything.

It's very difficult to know where all of the items we buy come from. I've noticed alot of stuff on amazon is also the same as the temu/shein stuff but more expensive. Many people don't bat an eyelid at buying from there as its convenient.

yep I had a later start this year only starting in June.

Some of us like to (and/or NEED to) be prepared, get bargains and spread the cost... but then that probably because I'm not the type of 'cool' Mumsnetter who buys their kid 1 toy (want), a character t-shirt (wear) and a book (read) + a toothbrush, pants, soap, socks and an orange in a stocking.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/07/2023 00:09

Bluetack
Charger wire protector
Small magic tricks
Bottle opener keyring
Keyring torch
Pack of cards (maybe themed around an interest)

Mindovermatter247 · 11/07/2023 23:10

DS usually gets
lynx
lush bath bomb
a book
i got him a Deliveroo and Costa card last year which went down very well
a few other things which I can’t quite remember right now…

HighEndGrifters · 11/07/2023 23:24

OK This is my list that I keep on my phone.

Shaving oil
Razor blades
Shaving foam
Terry’s orange
Scratch card or two
Underpants
Coffee voucher
Chocolate coins
Miniature gin
Miniature rum
Niche tonic for gin
Salted pistachios
I owe you a haircut
Biltong from the local farm shop
Imported cans of pop from a local shop

Think that is it.

OMGitsnotgood · 08/08/2023 11:57
