Stocking filler list for older teens

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 08/07/2023 22:25

Hello everyone
I'm trying to compile a stocking filler list fir my boy teens 16 and 19. I'm trying to give useful things and maybe a better brand that they would normally buy.

So far I have

Pringles
Pants
Socks
Body sprays

Any other suggestions? The stockings are pillow case size 🙄 they would not enjoy mini games or sport related items

I’m going to buy my 16 year old a box of jerky as he loves it but it’s expensive to buy more than a few grams at a time

so far I’ve got mini perfume selection set, a lambs wool scarf and a calligraphy set

CeriB82 · 11/08/2023 19:20

I stuff them full of chocolate, those millions sweets, haribos, shower gel, fake nails, lip balms, scratch cards, keyring.

Thelifeofawife · 16/08/2023 21:33

The stocking ideas list I made last year for DS (obviously didn’t get everything on the list);

Lynx
Razor
Batteries
Super noodles
Chocolate orange
Stress ball
Fluffy bed socks (the biggest hit!)
Trolley coin (also a big hit, for gym locker)
Multi tool key
Air cans
USB stick
Sheet face mask

Japanese sweets (Amazon or Blippo kawaii)
Gym towel
Water bottle
Shower speaker
Vouchers (Greggs, Nando’s, etc)
Nose trimmer (he asked for this)
Protein bars
Airpods cleaner

Following this thread now for some new ideas for this year!

I suggested temu only as I've noticed quite a few of my local quirky shops are selling the items from there at an inflated price. Eg dd1 fell in love with a bag that looked like a magic book £45 in that shop, £9 on temu. It is exactly the same. All the clothes they sell, earrings, accessories are all exactly like temu and shein even down to the sizing and quality. Box of random pins £4 each, between 35p and £1.60 each on temu. They are the same even down to the slightly off colouring on some character ones. Jeans £40 in the shop, exactly the same £10 from shein. So just because its local it doesn't necessarily mean it's ethically sourced.

So yes in an ideal world I would love to buy everything local and ethically produced, but I'm not going to pay inflated prices when I can save money on my limited budget. Where I can, I buy second hand, from vinted, or handmade from local artists but unfortunately I can't do that for everything.

It's very difficult to know where all of the items we buy come from. I've noticed alot of stuff on amazon is also the same as the temu/shein stuff but more expensive. Many people don't bat an eyelid at buying from there as its convenient.

I agree it is very difficult to know where everything comes from and I'm sure I occasionally buy things that aren't ethically sourced, but that doesn't make it okay to knowingly buy things that are driving the slave trade. Our children don't need gifts at the expense of other children's lives.

If I can't afford a fairer item, then my children can go without. As I've said I'm not 100% at this, sometimes I forget to check where something comes from, but I don't buy from places I know are not ethical, just so my children can have extra, cheap gifts, which will almost certainly negatively impact climate change as well.

I wasn't as good at avoiding things when they were younger, I wish I was. But now they are teens, it's great to actually discuss the issues with them.

Sorry, don't want to derail the thread, will post some more stocking Filler ideas later, just feel its really important we don't support things that are so shady for the sake of saving a little money.

@Thelifeofawife that blippo kawaii shop looks great for stocking fillers and sweets

Sweetener12 · 18/08/2023 09:54

Chocolates
Snacks they like
Power banks are a great idea!
Desk calendars with their favorite characters/team members (there are calendar making apps where you can design your own thing)
Phone cases, but this might be tricky
Cash 😂

Annaishere · 18/08/2023 17:13

Mini Henry Hoover for desk/ keyboard

ColeslawSandwich · 18/08/2023 19:05

@Annaishere great idea! Have ordered one for DD.

Almahart · 18/08/2023 19:20

My boys also love fluffy bed socks!

Japanese sweets are a good idea, there is a Korean shop near my work and last year I got lots of unusual food snacks there which went down well.

Marshmallow fluff or biscoff spread also good.

Otherwise it's pants/phone chargers/stationery

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 18/08/2023 19:34

Nutella (big treat in our house)

phone stand

pot of that slime type thing that you use to clean a keyboard

book

school stationery

pencil case

keyring

adaptor plug (forthcoming school trip)

shower gel/shampoo/shaving foam/bath bomb

hat

rolled up magazine

pants/socks

posh marshmallows

hot chocolate on sticks from gnaw

recipe book

different versions of drinks or sweets that they like eg DS likes skittles, so I bought some imported US ones in different flavours. I might do the same with Fanta cans this year

Annaishere · 18/08/2023 19:41

@ColeslawSandwich did you know theres a girl Henry hoover too

Annaishere · 18/08/2023 19:43

Nvm, can’t see any miniatures of her

letmesailletmesail · 18/08/2023 19:51

We always get DS a catering size bottle of tomato ketchup of Amazon. He loves ketchup and it takes up a decent amount of space in his stocking which is always a win. If yours like a particular condiment, you could do the same. A friend was inspired to get a 24 pack of those mini jams that you get in hotels. Again, quite cheap but took up a lot of space (although also easily breakable!)

A new pair of slides? Unlike shoes, they should fit in a pillow case

CheshireCat1 · 18/08/2023 19:54

Water bottles, reusable cups, pens and notepads, key rings, novelty lamps, stress balls, newtons cradle, fold up camping chair, food hamper.

Do we know Henry is a 'boy? It could easily be short for Henrietta.

Annaishere · 18/08/2023 20:09

Maybe it isn’t a boy but there’s another version with eyelashes

Thelonelygiraffe · 18/08/2023 20:40

Change the stockings to actual stockings, not pillow cases! 🙄

Chewing gum, shower gel, books, chocs/snacks, hair gel, aftershave, gloves, phone holder, spare charger, games, cards...

AvengedQuince · 18/08/2023 22:23

Yes, I would do this. A pillowcase is easy to fill when they are 6 and presents like lego and the 13 storey tree house books or similar.

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 18/08/2023 23:45

Cooking kitchen things like potato peeler 0r egg timer or lemon zester or little pancake pan depending on what they like to cook and eat.

spice mixes /kits
Spicery do nice blends with a recipe
maple syrup
coffee syrup
coffe beans and a grinder

bathsalts/bombs

sew those pillow cases in half though

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 19/08/2023 18:05

Thank you for all the suggestions so far - some great ideas!

I've just bought two packets i(one for each teen) of giant toasting marshmallows. That should fill a big gap in the stockings!

My teens favourite stocking filler was an otomatone although it was a pricey stocking filler.
this year so far on ds17s list I have
heinz beans safe can (thinking of putting a voucher in this such as just eat or maybe a scratch card)
keyboard cleaning slime
blue and white dolphin sweets
pan pipes
protein bars
thanks to a suggestion above I’ve added a mini Henry hoover to the list

previously I’ve done:
gym stuff such as quick drying towel, mini weights, hand squeezing thing
vouchers for takeaway/Starbucks/greggs
posher branded boxer shorts
Mini card games: exploding kittens/Obama llama/ tacocat
spiky dastards game
power bank

Tulipvase · 19/08/2023 22:02

I always try to do something they have actually asked for, not necessarily expensive though. Harks back to when they were small and only the stockings were from FC. And everybody gets a book.

Can I ask where the keyboard cleaning slime comes from please? This would go down very well with my teens.
