What gifts went down really well this year? I'm always keen for inspiration!

OP posts:
Flubadubba · 30/12/2022 07:10

My 3 year old has been obsessed with a torch and some marbles.

Itsthewhitehat · 30/12/2022 07:20

Fingerless gloves (loved by both my 18 year old and 11 year old) which cost about £5 for 3 pairs on Amazon.

The Lego bonsai/cherry tree set for dd (18). She had mentioned it but never liked Lego in her life so it was a gamble gift.

A travel mug from the Disney store, which was a replica of the ‘Herculade’ cup in Hercules. Again, for Dd, she has used it for all drinks since she got it.

Dp bought DS a remote control mister truck at last minute. Was about £30 and he loved it. Alone with a remote control dinosaur that my dad got him.

Mini waffle maker from Lakeland, tiny little thing, makes lovely waffles, my son was really pleased with it.

Batmannequin · 30/12/2022 08:44

A perplexus ball! It was bought for my 5 year old but we've all had a go. It's quite a genius bit of mini engineering.

Dd got a mini waffle maker from primark, I bought it because it was on sale. She loves it, we have had waffles everyday.
I got DM an oodie type thing. She hasn’t taken it off since Christmas.

Snoopystick · 30/12/2022 09:17

Bought a bubble tea kit for my DS and DD to share and they love it - nice for them to have something to do together. Although my DD is now wanting to have more kits 😬

beingsunny · 30/12/2022 09:23

A milkshake maker, and POSCA pens loved by my 10yo DS

A Crimpit

Everything in the fridge and food cupboard has been bunged in and toasted!

ApplePippa · 30/12/2022 09:34

A small homemade patchwork -style cloth cube, meant to be a tree decoration. My SiL made one for everyone and gave them out as table presents. Autistic DS claimed his as a fidget toy, and has carried it around with him ever since!

NotMyFinestMoment · 30/12/2022 09:34

A heated throw. My elderly mum has been cocooned in it since Christmas Day. She absolutely loves it as is she is old and thin so really feels the cold. I have also been able to turn the central heating off. Win-win.

Rudolphscarrot · 30/12/2022 09:39

3 year old DS has insisted in playing pop up pirate every day. Best tenner I've spent in a while.

Also popular is a singing dancing cactus that DBIL gave. DS loves it (I'm plotting ways to "lose it" for a few days)

SomethingAboutNothing · 30/12/2022 09:43

A book of card games for DS (11) - He has been trying out all sorts of new games.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 30/12/2022 10:08

Hairdryer for ds2

Last minute thing

His favourite gift apparetly !!

shockedballoon · 30/12/2022 10:13

Tiny hand finger puppets & a pack of stick on googly eyes I got for DS(13)'s stocking.

Everything (fruit, the cat, his own face...) is now 'hilarious'...

CuteOrangeElephant · 30/12/2022 10:16

My 5 year old loved everything.

Biggest hits were a pair of binoculars and one of those musical boxes with a spinning ballerina.

TheWitchCirce · 30/12/2022 10:25

A gorgeous, personalised stamp for my books also a books subscription (me)
A poker set (DS -15)
Bone conductor headphones (DH and DS who do a lot of running.)
Something to make milk hot and frothy (coffee obsessed DD 19)

SommerTen · 30/12/2022 10:26

I got a build your own hamper kit from Tesco for my Dad containing a white wicker basket, bow & cellophane.. filled it with his favourite coffee, ales, mini Christmas puddings & custards, chilli chutney; & he loved it!
Because it was unique & put together by me.

PookyToots · 30/12/2022 10:38

I'm not far off 40 but my mum found me a Rainbow Brite doll which I had as a young child and loved. I had mentioned seeing it on ebay during the year and she had bought me it.

ChilliHeelerFanClub · 30/12/2022 10:55

A marble run bought by BIL for the kids (5 and 2). They’re playing with it together nicely and it doesn’t make noise!

Rainallnight · 30/12/2022 10:58

A rocket launcher for DS, 4. Small foam rockets and you stamp on an air filled pouch to make them fly. He LOVES it.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 30/12/2022 11:00

Bubble tea kits for the kids.

TeaAndCock · 30/12/2022 11:06

7 yo ds is strangely enthused by the day of the week boxer shorts that were in his stocking.

Quisto · 30/12/2022 11:19

A paracord bracelet making kit for DS, 11 yr old. He made one at Kernow Jamboree in the summer. Now we all have paracord bracelets.

Bogglebrain · 30/12/2022 11:23

Hair crimper for DD12.

Dior gift set for DD15 (lip gloss, perfume) - expensive but worth it to see her reaction. It was beautifully packaged. She said she felt very posh!

Tarkan · 30/12/2022 11:29

Spinner rings for DD2 (14) who has autism. She's been doing a lot of "flapping" with her arms recently, especially at school as she can't take any of the usual fidget toys in. She can wear some jewellery though and loves them. She's worn them constantly at home so hopefully they help when school starts back too.

For me my soup maker has been amazing. I make such a mess making it normally but I made carrot soup a couple of days ago and chicken soup last night with very little effort, hardly any mess and blitzed to perfection without me needing to wash up lots of different things.

For DD1 her EarPods broke recently so I grabbed a £7.99 pair off Amazon to do her until she can buy the expensive ones she's saving for. Apparently they've got a much better sound quality and volume on them than any of us expected.

She also got money to spend on her PS5 and she got game packs for Jackbox on her PS5. It led to a lot of hilarity in the family on Christmas Day.
