Compiling my ideas list for next year!

I’ll start:

Truffle salt from Fortnum and Mason a huge hit. Got him truffle honey last year and was also a hit. V small though so more of a stocking filler.

Downside - I hate truffle and it is stinking out the whole kitchen.

DP did well, nice jumper and a book on whiskey tasting from my sister (after I saw him eyeing them up when we were out shopping) fancy rum glass, Amazon voucher and voucher for a DC comic themed restaurant from my mum. I got him flavoured BBQ sauces, slipper boots, Himalayan salt in a fancy grinder and, top fave, a waffle iron. I also got him a casserole dish which he claims to love but I am super annoyed as it turns out it’s not to go in the oven.

BestIsWest · 28/12/2022 17:10

DH liked - bat box, pasta machine and Mowgli cook book. The present he’s made most fuss of is a smart clock with Google assist. It doesn’t appear to do anything more than the Alexa we already have but it’s made him happy.

TheSproutOfWrath · 28/12/2022 17:12

Gig tickets, new pumas, new robe all went down a treat as did a book by his favourite musician. Plus a t-shirt I had made of his favourite character.

DarkForces · 28/12/2022 17:14

Surprise night in a posh hotel was a hit!

luckylavender · 28/12/2022 17:17

Dh very happy with new Sennheiser headphones, National Trust membership[p and Ancestry DNA kit.

Xiaoxiong · 28/12/2022 17:20

DH absolutely loved his Coravin wine sealing system - means we can open multiple bottles to taste, and they'll keep for over a month. And also open something very nice for just the two of us and not feel pressured to finish the bottle too quickly.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/12/2022 17:38

Great thread.
Badger cam was really for his 50th but massive hit.
LED book light; he's started reading actual books again this year.
Beanie hat with LED light for dog walks (he's raving about it so now we all have one).
Uniqlo socks, they don't last for ages but he says so comfy doesn't make feet sweaty.
Last year's big hit was Muck Boots, the ankle ones.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 28/12/2022 18:09

DH loved his AirTags and the wallet and key ring to go with them and the Star Wars Lego.

Wizzelina · 28/12/2022 18:19

DH liked his bottle of Portuguese red wine with a gift tag saying it included a holiday to taste it!

scrivette · 28/12/2022 18:30

DH loved his Lego Tabletop Football (is building it right now) and his fancy glass plant mister to use instead of his 99p plastic one. However he did not seem as excited as I thought he should be over the canvass of him and I together, although he did express surprise that he was in it and it wasn't just me!

ChimChimeny · 28/12/2022 18:52

Biggest hits were an airpod (other ear buds available) cleaning kit and star wars lego. got lots.of thick socks too for WFH ❄

imnotthatkindofmum · 28/12/2022 18:58

Iron maiden and Motörhead socks in a presentation box.

Book about cycling by Dan Martin (I've no idea who he is but I knew Dh would)

My mum got him a book about cycling road race routes which he also loved. He has no intention of ever riding them!

A reasonably priced coffee pot with a timer on it - he's giddy that he can wake up and immediately fill a mug with delicious hot coffee. I'm giddy I didn't spend hundreds on a fancy app controlled version instead.

Window vac to stop condensation.

I know I sound like a terrible gift giver and in a parallel universe DH would be setting up a thread on here moaning about me giving him household gadgets as presents. But genuinely he hates tat and loves stuff like this.

Also I've had fresh coffee in bed every morning since Christmas. Everyone wins!

Detectorists · 28/12/2022 19:10

Loved all of them! A voucher for a painting evening at a pub in town, an art book, a jumper, aftershave and an old Hitchcock dvd.

wheresmyshoe · 28/12/2022 19:14

Hits were Penhaligons scent, scented candle and fancy tea. No misses this very fragrant year.

Cuwins · 30/12/2022 17:42

My partner loved the 'dad jokes' book he got from my DD. He has been quietly giggling to himself since Christmas Day!
Also quite keen on his shower speaker which was a bargain sale buy for £5

RainbowPhilosophy · 30/12/2022 22:01

Bigger hit than expected were some moisturisers from Bath and Body Works (sold via Next). He even reported back after going for a Christmas drink with friends that he'd been telling them how nice they were 😂 Next actually have some B&BW in the sale at the moment so it could be a good time to pick some up as future gifts.

@Tacocatgoatcheesepizza

Sorry only just seen this, I got him this one, it's really powerful and feels like lots of little hands pummelling you!

DH liked the fancy wooden Lego Drawers i got him, and is particularly admiring the glass coffee pod storage my mum bought for him that he can put his coffee machine on top of.

OhThatChicken - do you have a link to the coffee pot please?

Hit - bonsai plant, and a really cheap multi tool from Aldi

Miss - AirTags

I’m a bit surprised the AirTags were a miss because I thought they were pretty darn cool. I knew he would like the bonsai but was surprised by how much. And the multitool was a total surprise, a cheap stocking filler that really hit the mark. Yay Aldi!

OhThatChicken · 02/01/2023 08:32

@SueGray

It's this one (although annoyingly when I bought it before Christmas it was £50)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Melitta-1011-16-Machine-Insulated-Selector/dp/B00R7HKARM/ref=mpssa113?crid=1XTA6NIN69QOU&keywords=coffee+machine+timer&qid=1672648151&sprefix=coffee+machine+timer%2Caps%2C88&sr=8-3

Highly recommended - it's pretty low tech (he just sets the timer before bed) but the coffee stays hot for ages even once the machine turns off because the pot is thermos rather than a glass jug. Yesterday it was still warm five hours after it had brewed and the machine switched off.

Thank you. I’d actually just done a price watch on that on Amazon! Good to have a real life recommendation though.

I bought DH a fold-up travel wireless charger with a felt bag to keep it and the cord and various plugs in. He loves nifty doodads. Was honestly a variation on a theme from his birthday in November when I bought him a bedside wireless charging station which he is also dotty about (and has tidied up the nest of snakes next to the bed).

DP got a panini maker and he loves it! So do I Tbf!
