Christmas Eve mass and cross?

We all went to Christmas Eve mass as usual. But I noticed fewer people seem to be doing the sign of the cross and virtually no one genuflects. Is this the same at other churches?

I find it very dependent on the church. RC, nearly everyone. Anglican very few, unless very High Church.

This is a catholic church. I admit we only go at Easter and Christmas. But it surprised me.

Maybe everyone else there just goes at Christmas and Easter as well, so no one actually knows what they are doing.

I'm RC and go every week. Would think it very odd if people didn't make the sign of the cross at the very least.

Loads of people took communion, so not as if they are all total novices. Interesting to see others are surprised too. I am used to virtually everyone making the sign of the cross and a few people at least genuflecting.

I’d say it’s people at this time of year who don’t actually go (ahem like me- though I had great faith until a few years back)

Nudge the person next to you and whisper ‘spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch’ as a prompt? 😜

I don’t, because although I attend Catholic Church with my family, I’m not Catholic. The priest knows me and I don’t even have to do the crossed arms thing for a blessing anymore

I imagine not. It would likely be the same here, except that the double genuflectors would be the only ones around for something like that.
