How have you laid your table?

Merry Christmas Eve all!

My rectangular table for 8 so far has:

⭐️ Disposable grey and white snowflake pattern tablecloth (for ease!)
⭐️ Grey placemats and coasters
⭐️ 2 x poinsettias with glitter
⭐️ Red Napkins for each guest folded into Christmas trees with silver stars positioned at the top

What have you got in yours??

I don't understand how a festive table works. It's finding space for everything that's the issue, there no room for candles and table decorations.

gerbal · 24/12/2022 15:40

On yours rather 😅

Nothing yet. It needs to be extended and then we can't get to the sofa so it will be last minute.

Deckthehallswithbenandhollly · 24/12/2022 15:42

Isn't your table in use today Op?

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/12/2022 15:42

Badly 🤣

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 24/12/2022 15:49

Our poor table has a couple of jobs to do before it can host christmas dinner. Namely, tonight's dinner, tomorrow breakfast and tomorrow lunch.

Oxo01 · 24/12/2022 15:50

Will extend table and do tomorrow mid morning but I prefer more food on the table in dishes so plates, napkins main priority.

Beercrispsandnuts · 24/12/2022 15:51

The crimbo table cloth is sitting on it folded up, with some champagne glasses for breakfast, the box of crackers and some little reindeer napkin rings,

SomethingOriginal2 · 24/12/2022 16:09

It still has DH work stuff on it, we're hosting tomorrow.

Badly 🤣

🤣🤣🤣

Guess that beats my .....

Not at all 🫣

Usually lay it for xmas Eve buffet but we are having Xmas dinner at my dads this evening.

And/or for xmas day breakfast - which we are also having at dads tomorrow.

I'm considering laying the xmas plates out for our buffet tomorrow evening.

Something tells me it won't happen though and it'll feel odd getting it out for Boxing Day!

DillDanding · 24/12/2022 16:26

Ours is currently covered in the accoutrements of gift wrapping.

By tomorrow it will be all silver, glass, candles and greenery. With bastard crackers spoiling it. But I was out-voted 🤨

Phos · 24/12/2022 16:31

Not done it yet, my DD is going to "help" when she's finished doing whatever she's up to with daddy (suspect last minute wrapping!) but this is the plan.

Sparkly white tablecloth, red runner down the middle.
Silver placemats
Mistletoe and candles centrepiece (LED candles!)
Christmas napkins with a robin on for each guest
Champagne glasses that totally don't match as we are incapable of keeping a set for any length of time without breaking at least one.

Peridot1 · 24/12/2022 16:59

I can’t do ours until after breakfast tomorrow as we don’t have a separate dining room.

I think it will be red fabric place mats, red and white gingham napkins and white crockery. We have crackers too. And I think I have a red runner. Def have a gold one. Not sure how to configure it as there is only three of us at a long table. I’ve done one facing two last year but it feels a bit like an interview panel. So might do our usual one at the end and one each side but not sure yet.

WE NEED PHOTOS PEOPLE

Pascha · 24/12/2022 17:03

Currently with an fruit bowl (which currently contains some apples, a pen, a peg and an old receipt).

Tomorrow approx 20 minutes before dinner is ready we'll put out a christmassy tablecloth, red placemats and some cutlery. Might even stretch to matching glasses.

justasking111 · 24/12/2022 17:10

All done now. Wedding dinner service dragged out rarely ditto cutlery. Some bits needed rewashing, cutlery knives always have water marks. Spiders crawl into the glassware and die. So all that is rewashed and polished. Table centerpieces last until the main course when there's too much on the table.

Late mother in law's hostess trolley is a godsend. It's 40 odd years old but always fires up without issue.

I'm looking forward to boxing Day though 😁😁

lightand · 24/12/2022 17:11

Gosh no. Hasnt even entered my head.

Ours has embroidered festive cloth, flowers, two groups of candles, Christmas crackers, crystal glassware, proper silverware, bowls of nuts, fruit and sweets at the end. It all looks quite Victorian in a good way. But there's only four of us this year. If we had guests it would be difficult to fit everything in.

1980sfookup · 24/12/2022 17:50

What fucking table?

MrsMitford3 · 24/12/2022 17:54

How have you laid your table?
BarbaraofSeville · 24/12/2022 17:56

Last time we had guests, the table was laid about 10 minutes before we were due to sit down to eat, because it wouldn't occur to me to do it any earlier, it's a great job to give to the people who say 'would you like me to do anything' when you're making dinner and would rather they'd just let you get on with it and anyway, we have cats so done any earlier and everyone would have a cat asleep on their plate.

thelobsterquadrille · 24/12/2022 18:04

All these people doing it the day before clearly don't have cats Grin
