Mulled wine, no Star Anise

As above, I have no star anise. DH has invited neighbours for wine & mince pies tomorrow morning 🤦‍♀️

Will the mulled wine be okay without star anise? It’s the only spice we don’t have. We’ve already been out, I don’t want to send him out again to get it due to cost of petrol etc.

TIA

Much better with it but sure it will be fine without. If you want to cheat and have chai tea bags in the house ( vanilla are best), they are perfect for making mulled wine as have all the necessary spices. I know it sounds odd but honestly, it's delicious 😋

Do you have any cloves, or even Chinese 5 Spice, ?
Pretty sure it will be lovely without, maybe add in an extra cinnamon stick or a vanilla pod

Excellent Christmas hack, thanks!

Oh Inch, thank you! I opened this thread thinking it would be a recipe for mulled wine with no star anise (which I don't much like) and the spices in vanilla chai will be great. I still have cloves to add which are my absolute favorite of all time. Does anyone still use mace?

AdoraBell · 24/12/2022 23:02

Thank you Inch that seems fabulous.

I have powdered mace and just almost everything including 5 spice but not star anise.
