Bookish, nerdy late-teen girl presents?

Two distant relatives are going to be visiting on Boxing Day with the rest of my family, which was only arranged today. The rest of us will be opening presents and I don't want them to feel left out. However, I don't know them very well and I'm stuck for ideas. I'm happy to nip out tomorrow to get something.

They're both very intelligent, quite serious girls. They like books, TV shows like Stranger Things, not really into fashion or make-up.

Any last-minute help appreciated!

Stompythedinosaur · 23/12/2022 21:04

Nice stationary or a pretty travel mug?

ChristmasCaroline · 23/12/2022 21:10

Amazon vouchers. An oodie

LittleBitLostWithoutYou · 23/12/2022 21:21

Primark do some Stranger Things merch. Argos do a Stranger Things notebook that my niece liked.

Books or book voucher and nice bookmark

Nice stationery

Costa vouchers, get a nice mug to put with it

Put some chocolate/sweets in.

A Penguin clothbound classic? Bookish teenage me would have loved it (and bookish adult me would also be pleased!)

My first though would be something by Jane Austen each, but studying it at school might spoil it a bit, so maybe Jules Verne?

Blank journal and book tokens

Too much ‘nice’ in that post. 😂

These are gorgeous! My daughter is very bookish and always gets these for friends birthdays. The mini ones are lovely too,

My DD would love those beautiful books - She has Little Women and I have got her Orlando for her birthday. She also loves contemporary fiction so something like Ottesa Moshfegh's books would be good as being made into movies. Hot chocolate bombes. Notebooks and journals.

At this short notice I'd stick to basics that are guaranteed to go down well - National book token (you can get them in most supermarkets) and some chocolates - Tony's always goes down well with the teens we know, or lindt balls. You can always add a pair of warm socks in and pop it all in a gift bag. Easy, thoughtful and can be got at any supermarket.

Waterstones vouchers are always my DD's favourite present

CrapBucket · 24/12/2022 02:17

DD would like a book but very difficult to get one she hasn't got already, so book tokens are ideal. Or fairy lights (especially if they match the stranger things type)

kateandme · 24/12/2022 02:27

Hoodie or sweatshirts are always nice.next has some great jumpers in.
Notebook And posh brushpens
Audible subscription
Pie,slipper booties and hot water bottle bundle
Snood
Blanket

postcardpuffin · 24/12/2022 02:36

If they are serious types they will probably not be into hoodies or oodies, and teens hate people choosing clothes, socks etc. for them.

Some chocolates and an interesting book are ideal. I’d recommend:

Something by Donna Tartt like The Secret History or The Little Friend;
Something a bit alternative and dystopian and recent, like RF Kuang, Babel

(assuming that both girls are 16+?)

If you are anywhere near a Waterstones they have great gifts & of course book tokens. Great notebooks, little games, quizzes etc. Chocolate would be good as others have said too I think.
