Hi im looking for a last minute gift for my toddler going on 3 has anyone ever bought something for around 20 quid something different and its been a sort of use / surprisingly well loved throughout toddlerdom. Not really after small toys or clothes not that sort of thing, im trying to think of something different/ practical even. TIA!

Why do you need another gift? I’m trying to think but surely if it’s something practical you already have it.

Do you have a pair of children’a scissors and masking tape?
Those sticky bandages and plasters to add to a doctors set?
Both much cheaper but fun.

This might not be what you're looking for as they are quite small things but my LO got the colour change Disney cars last Christmas age 2.5 and has played with them consistently all year to the point where he's getting more this year age 3.5!

Scuttlebug

Its not that they need another, its to get something on behalf of someone else, im obliged to therefore. So didnt want to add up clutter and tat I am asking because maybe soemone else has ideas from when theirs were that age. Or something educational that genuinely helped them to learn basic stuff for starting school?

Depends what your toddler is into. But magnetic tiles are played with consistently, as is the wooden train set. Kids binoculars get a lot of love and you can buy I spy type books to go alongside. Or hubelino, works with duplo too, fun for building marble runs. Den kit? Build a tractor is a big hit but my toddler is obsessed with all vehicles.

britsabroad · 22/12/2022 17:26

Can't go wrong with books!

Mine love pop up tent

Duplo - second hand on marketplace would be my shout. You get so much more for your money and duplo is very longlasting.

Wooden blocks
Alphabet blocks maybe if lowercase like in John Lewis
An easel eg the ikea one
The ikea simple dollhouse that can be a whatever you want it to be eg a hospital
some Schelich figure eg dinosaurs

Why don’t you relabel one of the presents you’ve bought as being from that person?

Alternatively, a toddler friendly baking kit (scales, cutters, small sized rolling pin etc) was a big hit with my son one year.

Tickle-me Elmo. It's a laugh.

My toddler loves his torch, or as a previous poster suggested, an umbrella.

Ihatewinding · 22/12/2022 19:22

Does it need to come in time or just need a gift?

These won't come until 31st but something you might actually use?

What about a lovely book? Something like the Alfie treasury by Shirley Hughes or the Mog Treasury are lovely stories for this age and they'll enjoy it up to school age. DS2 is 7 and still sometimes enjoys Alfie.

Best thing and most used thing for my youngest was a balance bike. He loved it and was so nimble. Had to run to keep up with him a lot.
