Alcohol Free Nightcaps?

CosyScentedCandles · 21/12/2022 10:36

Hosting Christmas this year. MIL and BIL don’t drink.

I have alcohol free beer, nozecco, elderflower cordial and Pepsi for the daytime but wondering if there’s any equivalent I can offer for the evening.

I have Baileys, port, whiskey and sherry for the drinkers. What’s the alcohol free nightcap for non drinkers other than a mug of fruit tea?

Hot chocolate Xmas Confused

Why don’t they drink?

I don’t drink, fruit tea or Pepsi Max would suit me fine.

I don’t drink alcohol free, I’m alcoholic so I just wouldn’t do that to myself, however, some enjoy it.

Warm milk with nutmeg or you could try Night Nurse . Sorry <runs away>🙂

Notonyournellykelly · 21/12/2022 10:41

My dad is not a drinker. I bought him an AF aperitif called Three Spirits. It's not very nice! I tried it. So, don't get that.

I'd honestly just go with hot chocolate or tea or maybe something like those ginger juice shots as they have health benefits too?

CheeseandGherkins · 21/12/2022 10:45

I would say hot chocolate or Eisberg do a non alcoholic mulled wine which Tesco sell, if that's any good.

CosyScentedCandles · 21/12/2022 10:57

They both stopped drinking a couple of years ago. BIL because he felt like he wasn’t able to drink in moderation and MIL has phases of drinking and not drinking, always has 🤷🏼‍♀️ they both drink alcohol free wine, beer and fake spirits so not worried about that bit.

I am worried as some of you have said that an “equivalent” will just be rank and when they are almost as expensive as the real thing I’m reluctant to get something horrid.

Ikea mulled wine is lovely and non alcoholic.

garlicandsapphires · 21/12/2022 11:08

Hmm not sure about nightcaps as such, but here are my recommendations for non-alcoholic drinks:
mulled apple juice
latte with festive syrup
crodino (v. similar to Aparol if you like that)
good ginger beer
my favourite of all, Crossip hibiscus. Gorgeous, grown up taste, quite zingy.
Could you do a fake White Russian with coffee syrup?

LemongrassLollipop · 21/12/2022 11:15

Aldi do speciality tea bags in peppermint and liquorice flavour. They are lovely, full of flavour and the tea bags are posh (gossamer?) ones, not paper ones

Herbal tea
Hot chocolate
Valerian or sleep tea?
My Dad likes to have an espresso at bedtime 😂
I don't drink alcohol, I usually have water or some kind of herbal tea. I like the sleep teas, or lemon verbena to help with digestion

Jinglecrunch · 21/12/2022 11:18

Could do mulled apple juice?

OneFrenchEgg · 21/12/2022 11:46

CosyScentedCandles · 21/12/2022 11:56

It's so nice think they do more than just one bit this is the one I have. I was going through an alcohols free period.

Herbal/fruit or decaf tea. You can get some nice spiced berry drinks that can be drunk warm or cild. I guess just don't try and emulate the booze. There will never be a nice non-alcoholic baileys

SiobhanSharpe · 22/01/2023 18:03

Heat up some chocolate milk from the supermarket and add some squirty cream?
or make super duper real hot chocolate with expensive dark chocolate drops/buttons from Valrhona or similar, make it really thick with whole milk and cream. Extra (whipped) cream on top and a cinnamon stick to stir it with.
Hotel Chocolat do sone very nice flavoured hot chocolate powders like mint choc or praline.

Sorry, just saw how old this thread is.... 😚

LadyFlumpalot · 22/01/2023 18:06

A nice hot chocolate, but make it on the stove with 60-70% chocolate and a 50% milk and double cream mixture. It's rich and strong so they'll only need a small mugs worth and it's nice and indulgent.

LadyFlumpalot · 22/01/2023 18:06

Oh crap, me too 🤣
