We always serve a few canapés with drinks before lunch on Christmas Day. I’d love to know your favourite canapés / recipes for festive bite-size morsels. Preferably home made not shop bought. TIA 🙏🏻

Sounds delicious. Is there a particular recipe you use for the duck? Do you use ready made cases?

These sounds divine, and look super easy. Thank you! They’re on the menu…

Crostini - so easy with ready to bake sourdough baguettes. I top some with Boursin and red pepper (the cooked ones in a jar) and others with Philadelphia and smoked salmon / cheap caviar.

Delia has a recipe for pistachio and parmesan sables which are very moreish.

Little chunks of bruschetta always go down well.

Highly recommend chestnuts (buy a ready pack) wrapped in sausagemeat, then bake...comes out looking a bit like a Toffeefi if you feel me, is relatively non-fiddly, quick & yum!

Make coronation chicken (shredded cooked chicken, mayo, curry paste & mango chutney mixed) cut brown soda bread into bite-sized squares and top wiht a spoon of the chicken mix and half a red grape. (or you could fill small vol-au-vent cases instead, or use blinis or small crackers)

Spread a slice of parma ham with a thin layer of cream cheese. Add a few rocket leaves and drizzle with a small bit of balsamic oil then add a dill pickle to the end and roll up tight. Cut in half and sit the halves cut-side down on the plate. (don't know what these were originally called but I make them every year and they go down a treat!)

Using frozen petit pois, let them defrost but keep cold and then blitz in a blender (you want it a bit chunky not pea puree!) with some fresh mint, small bit of garlic, squeeze of lemon, some olive oil and lots of seasoning. Taste and adjust if needed. Then a blob of that onto a blini or small cracker and top with a small bit of smoked or hot smoked salmon.

Good old fashioned cocktail sausages cooked in honey & soy sauce always go down a treat too.

Findyourneutralspace · 19/12/2022 16:47

Sticky cocktail sausages
cherry tomato, mozzarella and a basil leaf on a stick
feta, beetroot and an olive on a stick

woodhill · 19/12/2022 16:49

I've made some pastry cases today

I may do some prawn cocktail, guacomole, humours and grated carrot, Philadelphia & smoked salmon

Greensleevevssnotnose · 19/12/2022 17:31

I have had everyday for a week, Paul Hollywood sourdough with lurpak prosciutto, dolcelatte and half a fig drizzled with honey. My new 🆕 fave from the Waitrose Christmas recipe thing.

FusionChefGeoff · 19/12/2022 19:02

Smoked mackerel or smoked salmon pate on either crackers / cucumber / celery with a little dill sprig.

Happierwithouthim · 19/12/2022 19:03

Puff pastry tartlets with red onion relish & goats cheese

DaisyWaldron · 19/12/2022 22:08

I have an entire lunch of canapés before having the main meal mid-afternoon. We go for unfashionable retro favourites.

Devils on horseback.

Wheaten bread with butter and smoked salmon with a lemon wedge.

Blini with sour cream and Arenkha pretend caviar.

Mushroom vol-au-vents.

Paté on croutons made from bagels.

Endive leaves with beetroot and goats cheese.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 19/12/2022 22:31

Daisy I love devils on horses
