DS 16 is planning to do classical civilisation, English literature and History as alevels I’d like to order some books for Christmas that he would enjoy or anyone stocking fillers that go with these themes. He is very into all of them and I’m stuck!

I would find out what exam board the school use and then look at the specification for what they have to study. There may also be additional reading material suggested on there.

Mary Beard, SPQR.

Any of Tom Holland's books: www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-dbs/entity/author/B000APEALK?_encoding=UTF8&node=266239&offset=0&pageSize=12&searchAlias=stripbooks&sort=author-sidecar-rank&page=1&langFilter=default#formatSelectorHeader

Tickets for next years BM exhibition on Persia and Greece: www.britishmuseum.org/exhibitions/luxury-and-power-persia-greece

Maybe have a look at the Museums Selection website: www.museumselection.co.uk/gifts/ (they do some fab wrapping paper too.)

But note that it may be too late to order anything for this year given the post issues.

@Ellmau Thank you some great ideas have added both books on my Amazon order and will definitely book tickets and tie it in with a weekend visit to London 😀 I’ve technically spent all his budget but I just think he needs a few more bits to open…he’s had a load of parts to a PC he is building so I really shouldn’t spend more.

I, Claudius. Either the book or the DVD of the TV series with Derek Jacobi.

Stephen Fry has done a trilogy of Greek myths that are very accessible starting from the creation through Kronos and then on to Zeus

Mary Renault’s wonderful novels set in Ancient Greece: The King Must Die, The Bull from the Sea, The Praise Singer, The Mask of Apollo, The Last of the Wine, Fire from Heaven, The Persian Boy and Funeral Games.

I really enjoyed the Stephen Fry books, Mythos, Heroes & Troy. They could be worth looking at as an idea.

Might just arrive in time - I love Redbubble stickers and always get a selection for my (grown up) kids in line with their current interests - they have just about anything you can think of

A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Emma Southon is a really good read. She really digs into how different the Romans were.
