Salt dough ornament help!

Hi! First time salt dough-er here!

Baby’s first Christmas, so thought I’d make some salt dough and make some hand and foot print ornaments. Even had enough to do some for the grandma’s as well as the dog’s paw. Fab.

Stuck them in the airing cupboard overnight and the top has dried white. The bottom was still wet this morning so I popped them in the oven at 100 at about 8am. They’ve been in since then, turned them a couple of times, and the bottom feels hard, but hasn’t changed colour!? Does this mean they’re not dry all the way through? I don’t want to paint them to only have them go mouldy. Help!

Paint over them with some PVA. I usually add it to the mix but that's past now

@NippyWoowoo thanks! Would you suggest before or after the painting at this point?

Bake them in the oven.

Need to be cooked for ages

Paint the PVA glue on before painting, let it dry then paint a layer again after painting, Salt dough never seems to fully dry. but this will be fine, we have a creation of DS that has come out every year for 3 years.

They usually take 2-3 hours in the oven, I'd stick them in an oven for a bit to be sure !!

and use acrylic paint to paint them with. They won’t need sealing afterwards. We have salt dough Christmas decorations that I made with the Dc ten years ago and they haven’t chipped or faded. I buy this brand of metallic acrylic paints and they’re v reliable:

Art Americana Acrylic Metallic Paint, Glorious Gold, 59 ml (Pack of 1) amzn.eu/d/i93cefj
