Personally I'd actually start with Lords of Waterdeep because it I'd probably tge most versatile in terms of player numbers

To be honest I don’t like monopoly and cluedo as they go on too long !
We like Uno.

Camel Up & Ticket to Ride are good!

I always recommend Dixit. I think it's really underrated! There are loads of expansion packs for when you've played it a few times. Doesn't drag on for ages, but is lots of fun. It kind of relies on you knowing each other, which is a clever touch.

Secret Hitler is good too.

Oh yes we like/have secret Hitler.

controversial opinion: Hail Hydra is very very similar. Secret Hitler is marginally the better game, but I have found some people are a little odd about the idea of helping Hitler win. Personally if I was buying again from scratch I would have bought Hail hydra, there were a few occasions when You couldn't have played secret Hitler but you could happily play Hail Hydra.

Trivial pursuit is our family favourite, we have multiple versions.

Monopoly is an awful awful game and should be burned....

Narrowing the choice down further.... how many people normally play, age range. Is clued too long or just monopoly

We have a games night every month so have got loads of games. Favourites include:

Scotland yard is good, even our teen agrees to join in when we play it

Mine also enjoy this board game it's quite fun and silly with lots of different activities and challenges built in

@JuneOsborne I didn't realise you could get expansion packs for Dixit!! Ours all really enjoy it.

Yeah, there's quite a few out there. I usually buy a new one at Christmas, which I've not done this year. Off to browse, reminded myself!

@JuneOsborne am trying to convince myself the children need more presents so I can justify buying one although also got my eye on a talisman or catan expansion pack. This could get expensive!

I think Exploding Kittens is awful. Nothing like that please !

If you want shorter than Cleudo, I'd look at things like Love Letter, Codenames, Just one, Dobble where there are short rounds and you can go on as long (or not) as you want.
Some of the games on here aren't that short.
