If You've Ever Given A Bad Present...

Sorry, sort of a TAAT! Was just reading the thread Worst/strangest presents you've received from your other half and it got me wondering...Have you ever given a gift you know was bad or would cause bad feeling? I wouldn't have the balls to do it! I've received a couple of bad gifts (Thank you ex sis for the MAN'S shower kit. ) but I don't know. Would you have to be a certain kind of something/someone to gleefully wrap and deliver something you knew would cause offence and potentially ruin the day?
Meant to be quite light hearted, but confess if you want! Xmas Grin

Dh did on our behalf.
I was 6 months pregnant and not on top form.
It was mil’s birthday and dh decided he would buy her gift. He bought all of her favourite sweets, but not in nice boxes, more like bars etc. And worse still they were literally thrown in a carrier bag and handed to her.
I got a phone call from mil in tears at how little we thought of her.
I organised flowers to compensate but it certainly made things awkward for a while.

Ah, but that sounds like you didn't mean to cause offense? Has she forgiven you now? Xmas Grin Thanks for sharing!

I gave my alcoholic father a bottle of whisky. I'm not really sure why I did it - he was difficult to buy for, and I knew he would appreciate it. But yeah, I regret it.

I gave my dad eminems greatest hits cd. On my mums recommendation. Not quite sure why I did.
I appreciated it later though.

That made me laugh. Did your Mum think he would like him?

Yeah. My dad loves music. I know this. My mum said it would be a good idea.
I don’t think he was that impressed when he opened it. A minor blip Halo

One year I gave everyone home-made tortilla chips. Soggy and weird. Also a mix-tape! In my defence I was 20.

I used to give my step grandmother really generic gifts (think Baylis and Harding gift sets, 3 for 2 in boots).

I knew she’d bitch about them…. But she’d also bitch about my presents in the years I gave her something I’d tried to be thoughtful and spend money on, so I decided to save the effort.

Openmouthinsertfood · 13/12/2022 21:13

I can understand that @MolesOnPoles .
I once gave my grandad a bag of compost for his birthday. Xmas Blush In my defence, I hadn't been back in touch with him for long (Him and my mum had a falling out.). I knew he liked gardening. I was pretty skint so I I bought him some flower seeds, a tray to plant them in, then I thought he would need something to plant them in...He opened it last and his disappointment was obvious! lol

We've given MIL

A princess Diana ashtray (about 8 years ago, she doesn't smoke)

An "I heart London" tea towel (when she lives in London)

This year we've got her a Harry and Meghan commemorative trinket box.

We go into a tourist shop and by the naffest thing we can find for £5

It's a standing tradition now.

She gets a decent present as well....
