Inspired by another thread where OP was disappointed in the present her husband got her.

What are the weirdest/worst/most disappointing presents you've received from your partner at Christmas.

My DP is a very sweet and kind man but is notoriously bad at choosing presents for me. He earns good money but is quite reluctant to spend it ever to put it politely. I, on the other hand, love getting him gifts and won't hesitate to get him whatever he's hinted at for Christmas/Birthday no matter the cost.

Some of the gifts he's got me for past Christmases;

>Some fake stick on nails (I never wear fake nails and they were so small they would only fit a childs hand, they almost look like they came free with a kiddies magazine)
>A bright pink hoodie 3 sizes too small (this was the "main prezzie" that year)
>A rape whistle (???)
>A pair of earrings I already owned and he has seen me wear many times
>Some plain black socks that were miles too big
>A pair of "posh scissors"

Please make me feel better by sharing your present fails.

OMG I LOVE CHEEZUS 😍 I would be very happy to receive a taxidermy rodent. My last drunk purchase was a glass dome full of taxidermy butterflies.

DH is usually ok with gifts, the oddest has been a pyjama top, and pyjama bottoms, but from different sets (different shops, different fabric...). I do love pyjamas though.

My first boyfriend when we were 16 got me the below. I fairly vocally hate South Park. I wasn't so good at masking my feelings back then either, there were tears.

My husband likes to give me weird joke gifts so I get every year the Marigold gloves, tampons, sponges/fairy liquid in the stocking.. He does get really great gifts as well - he just thinks he's funny when I am sat there opening tampons or something!

I’ve been known to do this.
one year I told my husband I was getting him an iPad.
what he actually got …

@SaveMeCheezus DP appreciates your festive name and sends seasons greetings. He is worryingly feeling rather validated by this thread. I need to nip this in the bud now Grin

Oh dear brilliant but I hope you got him the iPad.

murasaki · 13/12/2022 19:12

@FettleOfKish , how marvellous, may we see the butterflies please?

FettleOfKish · 13/12/2022 19:15

@murasaki We're out now but I'll post them here when we get home.

I did, I might be mean but I’m not that mean!

I adore Cheezus and sort of want one, even though as a PP pointed out it looks like you’ve crucified poor Stuart Little.

I have also started googling how to keep sea sponges.

murasaki · 13/12/2022 19:19

Apparently I am now getting a sea sponge for Christmas, must stop reading this thread to DP

superplumb · 13/12/2022 19:24

Husband got me a steering wheel cover. It was leather so apparently that's alright then
Mil got me a jar of jam for Xmas.
Maybe they both hate me🤔

Newmum0322 · 13/12/2022 19:34

A shower cap 😂 it wasn’t even a good one!

Pipsquiggle · 13/12/2022 19:37

From my parents:

In my mid 20s I asked for an ipod mini............. They gave me a sewing machine!

I am now in my mid 40s and I think I have used it maybe 5 times😂

Squiff70 · 13/12/2022 19:46

My one and only gift from my DP for my 40th birthday was 12 bottles of Ribena. Literally the only gift. Now, I quite like Ribena. It's okay, but I like lots of things. I still secretly cry about it from time to time. Not in an ungrateful way but in wider context of our relationship which is sliding hugely. He proposed in February. He pestered me for months to choose a ring. I found one, we discussed finances, he insisted it wasn't too expensive etc. Went for a fitting etc. He said it was perfect. Four months later I'm still waiting for even a ring from a Haribo Starmix.

Last Christmas though, somebody who was supposed to be a good friend gave me a print of a rock in the Peak District. There was no explanation, no frame, no story behind it that I know of. I'd spent a small fortune in money, time and love selecting and wrapping gifts for her and her family. I'd rather have received absolutely nothing.

Dolleey · 13/12/2022 19:49

Not from dp, but his sister (each as a single present on different occasions):

A single hand towel
A bar of soap
Omelette-on-a-stick-maker (Google ‘eggmaster guardian review’) - said she hoped she got the colour right for our kitchen. I was amazed anyone would think you’d make a countertop feature!
Etc.

I don’t really mind getting bad presents, but I was annoyed when we gave her some pricey home fragrance stuff (Aesop iirc) and I overheard dp saying it was good stuff and her just giggling and replying ‘Oh, yeah, I bet it’s just like Chanel hee hee!’

FictionalCharacter · 13/12/2022 18:38

What did he say when you pulled him up? I’m honestly baffled by people who do this. If you’re clueless at buying presents surely you can go into Boots or somewhere like that, go to the Christmas gifts aisle and at least pick something gift boxed that looks like a present!

I agree! And if you're still stuck ask an employee for help! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 13/12/2022 19:53

A neon pink headscarf. I've only ever covered my hair in places it's culturally or religiously required.

Knee high boots with a ridiculous heel. I'm 5'8 bare footed and tend to wear flats.

A chest freezer. Although to be fair, this was useful and it's currently full.

A spanking paddle with slut embossed into it backwards so it imprints correctly. Opening it in front of various family members with no warning was "interesting".

Now I buy my own presents! Still got three of the 4 above though.

Algor1thm · 13/12/2022 19:59

For my 21st birthday my mum bought me a new TV and wardrobe for my room. Fine. Except she said they were to stay in the room when I moved out. And I was already due to move out 6 weeks later. I think she thought it would make me change my mind about moving which it didn't. She still owns them over a decade later.

Littlebummybums · 13/12/2022 19:59

A pen knife. With my name engraved on it.

BT11 · 13/12/2022 20:09

Not DH present but...

MIL bought me a pack of freddos and a multipack of sweet chilli crisps for my baby shower.

It was very awkward 😂

StrawberryWater · 13/12/2022 20:11

An ironing board to encourage me to iron even though I was the one who did all the ironing! Needless to say I no longer iron.

A toy plastic helicopter. I was looking at it for my nephew and oh got it into his head that I’d want to play with it. It was cool and did have a working winch but needless to say it was not something I was looking for at 28 years of age.

Katieeb24 · 13/12/2022 20:13

These are hilarious 🤣

ShangPie · 13/12/2022 20:13

@Dinosauratemydaffodils is the chest freezer full of DH?!

StrawberryWater · 13/12/2022 20:14

My mum once spent a whole month hinting to my dad she’d bought him new power tools for Christmas and he was really excited. He kept staring at the big box under the tree and rubbing his hands together in anticipation of receiving a new sander, saw and drill.

Imagine everyone’s surprise on Christmas morning when he tore into his present and pulled out a giant stone otter! 😆

We still have no idea what she was thinking. It cost about £300 too! 😬 😳

mumwon · 13/12/2022 20:17

one year dh got be a wooden bread bin - very disappointed because I was looking forward to opening the big parcel. To be fair he got me a breadmaker (which I really wanted the year before so I expect he thought it was a useful theme) he does buy me decent perfume each year though and we both buy books for each other - that we share! Nowadays he gets me to choose a jumper from a decent shop.
