We make two cakes; one for my dad and one for us. The kids tend to go crazy on ours but I'd like a simple, nice idea for my dad's.

How are you decorating your cake this year?

When the royal icing is setting in lots of stiff peaks we either add little ceramic decorations (last year it was three ducks waddling thru the snow), or if there's left over marzipan we use food colouring and try to shape trees or reindeer (they look pretty dreadful but fun to do with ds!)

I'm going old-school with rough royal icing and a crepe paper and foil frill on a gold board.

With some little fake trees and some plastic skiers. Been in the family for about 40 years, probably longer. Seems wrong to not have the little skiers.

Oh there’s a little wax snowman too, he’ll come out as per usual.

I'm going to just buy a ready iced cake, but I'm delighted to have tracked down a couple of those old fashioned little plastic robins with a stick in their bum and am going to put those on the cake with some fake holly. I've also got a nice red ribbon.

I did the whole roughed-up royal icing, then sprinkled on little edible silver stars and some green, edible glitter. Then added a sugar paste snowman (bought, not made, as I don't have a crafty gene in my body), and piled up some Cadbury's snowballs in a few heaps around the snowman

I'm copying the style of one of my Wedgwood Christmas baubles this year, so it's a half round in blue & white.

Saw a picture of a cake along those lines last year that looked pretty after we'd already decorated, so have been waiting since then.

We got to eat the bits of cake I carved off to make it a dome shape so my son enjoyed that.

Hoping to do just the top this year, not the sides
