How to make Christmas Special for the Family?

What do you do to make your Christmas/Holidays special? We do something different every year due to DH work, and I would love to start some traditions of our own.. this year we are going to be doing Christmas Day on Christmas Eve instead due to DH work.. I'm not totally sure how this will work just yet, but would love to hear some suggestions! Does anyone else do Christmas Day on another day instead?

I am German so we always do Christmas on Christmas Eve.

Depending on the age of your children, we either did presents before dinner or now, with a teen, afterwards.

We normally watch a holiday movie early afternoon and have chocolates, cakes, biscuits.

When it gets dark, Father Christmas starts its journey. When DD was small, we did presents around 5pm to give her time to play with toys and had a small dinner and then bed.
Now, we do a small version of a fancy dinner at 5-6pm and then presents afterwards.

We dress up as well.
