What would your child like in their lunch box on Christmas Dinner day in the lunch hall?

Ds1 (12) has a newly broken wrist and can't deal with cutting and eating lunch and balancing trays etc right now so he's having a pack up which is fine but what would make it christmassy when everyone is eating roast dinner?

Festive sausage rolls? Or pinwheels? Or a wrap rolled up with the different Christmas fillngs if he likes them?

Ooh, a mini trifel if he likes them?!! Might not be allowed, not sure what healthy lunch rules allow these days

Turkey/chicken and stuffing sandwich
Cold pigs in blankets
A gingerbread man biscuit or something other wee festive treat
Clementine

Pack in a christmas napkin too

Pascha · 09/12/2022 11:40

Oh he does like trifle! And pigs in blankets. I'm off to check out pinwheels now...

Am I the only one who is really shocked none of his classmates are helping him? Why the hell isn't someone helping him with his tray, cutting his food etc? What about shoelaces and coats and bags and books? Is no one helping with those either?

Overthebow · 09/12/2022 17:03

Definitely pigs in blankets with cranberry dip pot. Could also do roast veg strips to dip too.

ScarierThanBoo · 09/12/2022 17:09

@ChristmasTidyings from what I remember of being a preteen with a busted wrist, there isn't much support from friends, more a case of being called a clumsy git. Kids are charming aren't they!
There's some smashing ideas on here op, you could send in a hefty slice of yule log for dessert, only need a spoon for that! How about a beef and horseradish sandwich and some rosemary and thyme Crisps?

ChristmasTidyings · 09/12/2022 19:00

@ScarierThanBoo 😮I'm still really shocked. Kind of takes the meaning out of Christmas if no one will help him so he can join in with Christmas lunch. Poor kid. When DD10 had her wrist in a cast a while back her classmates went all out to help her. She'll be in for a shock at secondary (clearly I shall be too!) if that's the case.

No help on the packed lunch but hope he heals quickly and isn't in too much pain @Pascha

All his friends are rallying around, TBF, but it's embarrassing to have your food cut up for you. He's doing fine with everything else, bag OK, shoes rammed on with no thought for tying or untying laces as per every 12yo in existence. He usually has packed lunch but would have had the special Christmas dinner that they buy a ticket for. Now he needs a jazzed up packed lunch for the day.

All the pigs in blankets.

Also, trying not to identify here but the injury was a direct result of someone else's behaviour and his class have taken that on board fully meaning they all stick together. He's well covered for most help, honestly. He just has an aversion to looking a tit in the lunch hall and prefers stuff he can eat without help.

I think pigs in blankets are going to make up approx 80% of this lunch if he has his way so that's quite easy really.
