Wow gift for 4 year olds?

I’ve managed to get my daughter an almost new Our Generation Icecream Van from Facebook Marketplace. It’s enormous and very much a ‘Wow present’. I’m struggling to find something similar for my 4 year old boy. He has a medium sized Lego set, a board game, and some bits of track for his hot wheels so far but it looks very unexciting next to the Icecream Van. He has bike, scooter, play kitchen and car garage already. We have a very small garden so no room for exciting outdoor play stuff. Really struggling and don’t want him to feel underwhelmed on Christmas Day. No set budget. All ideas very welcome!

Scalextric maybe? Or is he still a bit young for that? Or maybe Hornby train set?

CherryLongIsland · 09/12/2022 12:03

What does he actually want?
At that age my children's wow presents have never been the things I thought they would be, it's always been the daft things they've asked for like Pringles, crayons, a penguin teddy etc.

Could you give the ice cream van as a joint present for both of them and then get your daughter a few smaller bits to match her brother?

This is a good idea

Kid punchbag thing?
Goal post set
Basketball hoop

Toy work bench (the Theo Klein one is really good)
Hot Wheels City Gator car wash
Playmobil Fire station
Aquaplay lock box

That's lots of nice things already, does he need a wow present? My almost 4 year old is getting excited about getting a yoyo

LucySno · 09/12/2022 12:40

One of the big squashmallows?

I was also coming on to say train set.

My 4yo is getting a v tech digital camera. Quite wow?

They really don't care about the size of presents at this age but I can think of a few things, shop, train set, one of the more expensive toys from his favourite shows there's some bigger paw patrol stuff or even one of the more expensive hot wheels tracks.

Thank you - some good suggestions here. Like the Vtech camera and the Aqualock ideas especially.
I’m absolutely not going to give them a shared present - too much scope for arguments on Christmas Day.

Another vote for the vtech camera - my DS absolutely loved his and now he's 9 he's still photography mad and has just got a DSLR!

Is he into dinosaurs at all?

My 4-year-old DS is obsessed and one of his presents is going to be a sort of small-world play dinosaur land.

I've got a small tuff tray, which I'm going to set up with wood pieces (have bought trunk off-cuts from a small business called Mrs K's treehouse), fake moss, pebbles and shells collected from the beach, a small cave from Yellow Door toys and dried chickpeas and lentils.

I've bought a set of very reasonably priced dinosaurs from prextex toys (actually down to £11.99 on Amazon which annoyingly is much less than what I paid!) and a couple of Schleich ones and I'm going to set it all up ready for him on Christmas Day morning 😊

at that age, physical size matters.

what about a pop-up play tent (that pops away again later)

KeeefBurtain · 09/12/2022 13:32

A go cart or a wiggle car. Can be used inside and out
