I always buy them a set of books each (eg Julia Donaldsons, Hairy McLary, Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs etc) but this year I am drawing a blank! What do your DC of these ages like at the moment? As far as I am aware, they like dinosaurs, cars and Batman but the books don't have to be related to those things.

Dogman books are beloved in my house by my year 4. Also, the horrible history books. Diary of a wimpy kid are also good for that age group.

Sorry just realised that I read the ages as school years. However, my 6 year old also really likes them.

Thanks, jelly. I know the Wimpy Kid and Horrible History books, and they would be too old for these boys. The two youngest aren't in school yet.

Rob Biddulph has a series of dinosaur picture books called Dinosaur Juniors which would be great for a 3 / 4 year old dinosaur lover.

I echo comments above about Dogman for the 6 year old. They have been massively popular with my son and his class mates.

My 3 & 5 year old love the Usborne look and find books. Dinosaurs, bugs & nightime are popular.

My 3 year old likes the Supertato books.

For the 6 year old, I would go for chapter books that can be read to him - something like The Boy Who Grew a Dragon, The Magical Faraway Tree series or Secret Seven.

My recently turned 4 year old DS loves Julia Donaldson, the Dinosaur that Pooped series and some of Adam Bestwick's books (Robot, Stop!, The Chicken that Hatched a Cow & The Bean Machine)

Dinosaur Cove by Rex Stone! I have the fondest memories of snuggling up with my boy (now 14) and reading the many many books together! Really excellent exciting books, especially for dining fans. Would suit the 6yo.

3 and 4 - Rachel bright and Jim field (the lion inside, koala who could, whale who wanted more, way home for wolf, squirrels who squabbled and There's a new one called the gecko and the echo that I haven't read yet) That's a lovely series. Can get paperback and board books of them.
6 year old - magic faraway tree series is good (often on offer at the works) Or the boy who grew dragons series. Or the pirates next door series, that's a great one actually with lots of pictures and quite funny. Chapter books but not too long.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have made a list, and put in my order soon! It made me smile that I have already bought them a few of the suggestions, so must be doing something right!

Books2door usually has sets that are searchable by age at good prices. I often start there for inspiration

My DS also liked all the "oi frog" series. The book with no pictures also went down well at that age
