She is 15 and wears simple, classic styles, both silver and gold.

I will encourage her to exchange it if she doesn't like it but I'd like to at least have a go at getting it right!

Mine would have worn it at 15 and still would at 19.

softpilllow · 01/12/2022 12:47

Absolutely not. Neither would I spend £160 on a necklace at that age. The money could go so far for usual teenage things, that looks like a necklace my granny would wear. Sorry. Don't do it.

HopRockers · 01/12/2022 12:54

Mine wouldn't but she's got skeleton jellybaby earrings on just now so 🤷‍♀️

Presumably you know her better than any of us...

Confusednecklace · 01/12/2022 12:58

Thanks, all- a mixed response!

@TBOM She already has that sunbeam one- I agree, it's a good'un. The bamboo round slider one is nice- I like it in gold particularly.

My 24yo DD2 would wear that, but she likes delicate silver jewellery. I guess if you know her taste then it will be fine.

Onesipmore · 01/12/2022 13:02

V pretty. Mine would wear it. Have you looked at any of the Estella Bartlet ones?

3WildOnes · 01/12/2022 13:04

I thi k the gold bamboo one is best. But really depends on her style.

Exactly this.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/12/2022 13:07

No. If you are spending that amount I'd look at a different brand like Tiffany Or Vivienne Westwood (although that's mainly costume jewellery)

Needmorelego · 01/12/2022 13:09

Mine would - but I wouldn't be buying at that price.
She is 14 and not really at the take care of her jewellery stage of life.
She has 3 billion necklaces but they all come from Claire's Accessories or Primark.

mam0918 · 01/12/2022 13:10

Thats a crazy amount of money for something that looks that 'cheap' and is made from fairly cheap materials.

I have had costume jewellery that cost a few quid that looked almost identical to this before.

unoffensive yes but who would pay that?

Also what anyone else would wear is irrelivant, people tastes are very varied like my best friend love diamante and swarovski EVERYWHERE (the less subtle the better) with big drop earrings and statement necklaces. Where as Im the exact opposit and hate clear stones, cant wear anything that dangles (catch risk) and prefer stones to be mega dainty, simple and subtle (the smaller the cuter imo). We have both had our opposit tastes since we where teens, I dont think either of our tastes are unusual though just different from each other.

mewkins · 01/12/2022 13:11

My almost teen dd would think it was pretty but would lose it in approximately 3 days. Can you go shopping together for something cheaper and cooler and give her the rest in cash if you are trying to spend up to a certain amount?

SirenSays · 01/12/2022 13:13

I like it! But no probably not as prefer dainty gold pieces.
I think if you're buying jewellery in that style it always makes more sense to go vintage than to buy new.

kimchifix · 01/12/2022 13:13

Nearly 16 yO DD would not like that. It's too traditional & she's into layering necklaces - think several gold chains / pendants. Apparently mixing gold and silver jewellery is a thing now so it's not the silver she wouldn't like it's the gem & setting.

She's chosen a gold initial necklace in a chunky style for Xmas. (Have to have a specific list to buy from for fear of getting it spectacularly wrong!)

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2022 13:14

I'd splash out as far as something like this and use the rest of them money elsewhere

RowanAtkinsonsRubberyFace · 01/12/2022 13:15

My 15 yo would wear it probably layered with other necklaces. But she'd also probably assume it cost well under a tenner because it looks similar to many she gets from Claire's or Shien.

CakeCrumbs44 · 01/12/2022 13:15

£160 seems like a lot, you could almost certainly get something similar for half that (or less!)

ABBAsnumberonefan · 01/12/2022 13:16

I think at that age and spending that amount you might be better looking at Pandora. Or a more well known brand.

ABBAsnumberonefan · 01/12/2022 13:18

lily & roo also do lovely jewellery, classic & dainty stuff.

Mine wouldn't wear Tiffany, very passé!

Pegasushaswings · 01/12/2022 13:19

Could you find a handmade piece on Etsy? I think that’s a bit forgettable, just my opinion, it’s nice but…..
An Etsy a handmade piece might have more appeal.

Smearywindowsagain · 01/12/2022 13:20

That’s a lot of money for what it is. It looks old fashioned to me as well.

Eranzer · 01/12/2022 13:20

I like it, but for the price Vivienne Westwood is more "in" at the moment (teen niece and her friends are all wearing it)

girlmom21 · 01/12/2022 13:21

It looks like costume jewellery that you'd give a 6 year old for their dressing up set
