She is 15 and wears simple, classic styles, both silver and gold.

I will encourage her to exchange it if she doesn't like it but I'd like to at least have a go at getting it right!

Mine would but I think Pandora would be more appealing to a teen

Soma · 01/12/2022 18:41

Agree, Vivienne Westwood seems to be the preferred designer for teens, followed by Pandora or Etsy.

MaryMollyPolly · 01/12/2022 18:43

No, and I definitely would not be buying it at that price. Mine wouldn’t want Pandora either.

lurchermummy · 01/12/2022 18:47

Nope and it's a silly amount of money for a teenager unless it's for an 18th or something. Mine are currently very into spoon rings (look on Etsy)

allthecrooksandnannies · 01/12/2022 18:48

Not keen

Confusednecklace · 01/12/2022 18:48

@IDidntKnowYouHadDandruffIDont I do like that one- thank you!

I think it’s nice @Confusednecklace

My similar aged family member sound like she has similar taste in jewellery and she also likes:

  • Astrid & Miyu
  • Carrie Elizabeth
  • Monica Vinader
  • Dower & Hall
  • Astley Clarke

Yes, I have a 17 year old who really likes Astrid & Miyu and Monica Vinader, she would were this necklace too.

AttilaTheUOkHun · 02/12/2022 01:59

Sophisticated older woman vibe.

KangarooKenny · 02/12/2022 06:43

No, my teen and 20’s DD’s wouldn’t like that. They like Tiffany necklaces.

Oblomov22 · 02/12/2022 07:07

I agree with pp's: I think many 15 year olds would think it had cost a tenner and think that £160 was way too much. And could/would lose it easily.

Ikeabag · 02/12/2022 07:59

Jewellery is so hard to buy for other people. At that age I usually had go-to stuff I would wear. Something sparkly, specifically that colour, was and is my least favourite thing. I don't know why aquamarine puts me off so much. If she likes classic pieces a sapphire with a surround would perhaps be better, and is less blingy. Agree with other posters too that it's a lot - I'd be dismayed if I knew how much it was, at that age. It would feel like pressure. But I have a boy, younger, we didn't have that kind of money and I'm not a teenage girl any more. Still, I find jewellery one of the least satisfying things to get. Nobody gets it right.

VejaVagVagina · 02/12/2022 08:36

Is that stylish?

MamaFirst · 02/12/2022 08:41

I think it's really pretty, but seems expensive for its appearance. Massive variance in 15 year olda though too, many are purely all about what other people their age would wear or the label on it. You know your daughter best so stick with that.

Kenworthington · 02/12/2022 08:42

My dd is 17, almost 17. Super stylish. She would never wear that.she wears layered fine gold chains with different things on them.she likes ByNouck. And Vivienne Westwood

Outfor150 · 02/12/2022 08:48

I think the three Dinny Hall links upthread are better -but still very pricey. No one I know would want Tiffany or Pandora. Etsy would be a better bet if you don’t want a “name”.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/12/2022 08:52

My daughter 14 has a similar but much cheaper version that she wears occasionally. At the moment with her friends it's all about the Vivienne Westwood orb necklace - around £100 in Selfridges. DD has that on her Xmas list.

NanooCov · 02/12/2022 08:54

I got lots of jewellery just like that from aunts and grandma at a similar age and I'm afraid I didn't wear any of it.

Take a look at Liberty's fashion jewellery for some ideas. You can filter by price. I like this Monica Vinader one and think it's much more versatile.

@IDidntKnowYouHadDandruffIDont I do like that one- thank you!

I’ve had things from that jeweller before (gold-plated silver earrings so different tho) and the quality is lovely, really nice. They’re on my favourites Etsy list now.

reluctantbrit · 02/12/2022 09:27

DD (15) would wear something similar but I think it's overpriced.

DD has various silver jewellery pieces, she takes good care of them and knows the price as she picked out several herself (we normally get a list with several options and choose one). But all are more around the £50 mark max and that's often as a set with earrings.

Sisisimone · 02/12/2022 09:44

softpilllow · 01/12/2022 18:36

Harsh? OP asked if our DDs would wear it. Some have said yes and some have said no and given their reasons. Entirely normal conversation.

It's nothing personal against OP of her choices, and not all teens like the same thing, please don't be calling people harsh for giving honest options on an anonymous post.

Yes harsh, particularly yours - telling the OP her necklace looks like a granny's and berating her for spending £150. It's noones business how much the OP spends on her daughters xmas present. The daughter will know the necklace isnt cheap as she already has pieces from that brand. Some of the replies are so aggressive towards someone just asking for a bit of advice about a necklace.

OP my usual trick is to ask dds opinion on something similar to see if she likes that style or to sit and look through a website with her and see if she says she likes anything. I hope she loves whatever you buy her

ScornedChicken · 02/12/2022 09:48

I asked my similar aged DD. She said it's lovely but she scoffed at the price and said she bought herself one from Pandora that was similar but not as expensive.

softpilllow · 02/12/2022 09:56

Yes harsh, particularly yours - telling the OP her necklace looks like a granny's and berating her for spending £150. I

Oh away. I didn't berate anyone for spending money. What I actually said was the money could be better spent on a teenager. I do think it looks like a granny necklace, however OP asked for opinions, and that is mine. That's not to say it does look like a granny necklace, that's just what I think and why I wouldn't get it for my teen. I think there are enough people who do like it to offer balance?

The daughter will know the necklace isnt cheap as she already has pieces from that brand. Some of the replies are so aggressive towards someone just asking for a bit of advice about a necklace.

Saying i don't like something, wouldn't buy it for my DD and that money could be spent elsewhere isn't aggressive. It's just not the same as you think, and that's ok.

Off you go and stop derailing OP thread by having a go at people for not thinking the same

www.monicavinader.com/diamond-essential-necklace/sterling-silver-diamond-essential-necklace-adjustable-41-46cm-16-18-diamond

This Monica Vinader one is a simpler version and more modern. My 17 year old loves their stuff.

KnickerlessParsons · 02/12/2022 10:01

Mine would prefer £160 to spend at Top Shop or the equivalent. And I wouldn't spend £160 on a necklace for a teenager that would probably get lost the first time she wore it.
