The Christmas secret

me and my brother and sister found our Christmas presents on top of my parents wardrobe as kids.
We confronted our parents with the evidence.
oh gosh!
They told us it was cousin Alice's gifts that her parents asked to keep at our house.
we were sooo angry with cousin Alice. Mainly because she was an only child and she got all the gifts that me, my brother and my sister had asked for. Plus extras.

it never occurred to me that my parents were lying and I never wondered why santa wasn't real for her (they basically told us that parents do get the presents. just not our parents)

I can't believe they got away with it!

Anyone else got any funny close calls?

Not quite the same, but my son told me Santa already had his list, because he tucked it into his pocket when he sat on his knee. He refused to write another one. Fortunately, he had simple wishes and I could guess what was written on it, but I don’t know how you get round that one!

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 30/11/2022 14:23

The way to get around that is for Father Christmas to write a letter saying unfortunately there was a big storm at the North Pole and some of the wish lists were blown away so now the elves don’t know what to make/collect/buy/whatever. Along with a request to please re-write the list.

I have always believed in Father Christmas but when I was about 7 or 8 I found a 'Tressy' Doll under my mother's bed and remember playing with it pushing the button on the tummy and pulling the hair out. I received it for Christmas and never batted an eyelid !
They were always liars my parents so Christmas was just another lie you accepted and were grateful if you got a present.

Tressy dolls!!!
I had one - I'm in my 60's and even remember the whole of the song in the advert.............is that sad? 🙄😂

Oh haha! exactly.
I really wanted Buckaroo and was so upset that my cousin was definitely going to get one when my parents told us our list was too long so don't expect everything.
I saw it on their wardrobe and didn't even make the connection Christmas morning!

When DD2 was a toddler she was impossible to get to sleep. So we weren't overall surprised when she reappeared an hour after bedtime when we were busy arranging presents and building the toy kitchen. She had a great evening "helping". Then was completely surprised the next day at getting presents!

This has reminded me of an ex boyfriend who tried to persuade me that the porn mag in his bedside drawer wasn't his, he was looking after it for a friend 😭
