Do they have children? What sort of things do they like to do?

Alsonification · 29/11/2022 20:34

My brother in law & his partner get a "just-eat" voucher & a bottle of wine every year. They can order from any of their local take aways for a treat night & it's not tat.

JayJayYoYo · 29/11/2022 20:36

Cheese and wine? A small hamper of jam and chutney? A candle for the home?

TheBirdintheCave · 29/11/2022 20:59

We did socks and chocs for my brother and his wife last year. It went down well :)

QuiltedHippo · 29/11/2022 21:05

Boardgame? Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective gave us about a year of fun but depending on their interests there'd be plenty of other suggestions

If they've got kids so can't go out on evenings as much then I like the justeat voucher idea

Gifts we've been given and unexpectedly enjoyed is serving dishes for certain cuisines, so nice chopsticks and Chinese plates and rice bowls, or some metal curry dishes, or ramen bowls & spoons - whatever cuisine they like, makes a weekend meal or a takeaway feel more of an occasion

You can get nice Xmas boxes in b and m for £2. I then fill with some wine/port. Cheeses and crackers and chutneys. I once managed to get a really nice cheeseboard and knife set.

Or I get calendar, nice stationary and some notebooks, mugs and nice coffee/ hot choc sachets.

I've done socks, mugs, hot choc and nice biscuits before and also hot water bottles.

Generally for couples I do a themed box or useful things - different each year - and then I wrap each thing up inside the box too!

Decafflatteplease · 29/11/2022 21:17

We have gone with nice serving bowls for similar age couples

A set of coupe cocktail glasses if they drink? Like these

Depending on their interests, could be theater tickets, seasonal passes for museums, certificates to art classes, etc. If they enjoy travelling, could be a subscription to travel slideshow maker or a travel snack box (did both for a friend, she and her partner are avid travellers and they loved it).
Could be something for their home, like a custom wall calendar or a scented candle set, etc.

Wine/champagne/gin glasses always go down well in our house as we’re always breaking them

Startuplife · 01/12/2022 17:19

Absolutely not wall art. We have a family member who has bought us at least 4 different pictures for the wall. We are incredibly particular about our house and I don’t think anyone could reliably choose us art. I’m running out of excuses as to why we haven’t put them up yet.

We’re early 30s with no kids and would love vouchers, anything edible or booze.

A nice wood chopping board and cheese knife maybe (possibly with a cheese or two if theres money left, you can get little christmas cheeses for £1)

obviously only if there not vegan/lactose intolerant etc...
